Evil Dead Wrath Producer Confirms Upcoming Movie’s Place In Franchise Timeline

Evil Dead Wrath isn’t just another chapter in the hit horror franchise.

Created by Sam Raimi, the Evil Dead is a long-running horror franchise. The films and TV series revolve around people who encounter demonic spirits that get unleashed by an ancient, cursed book called Necronomicon Ex-Mortis. These entities can possess both the living and the dead, transforming them into “Deadites.”

Evil Dead Wrath has just finished production ahead of the release of the upcoming Evil Dead Burn. And, the producer of the films, Robert Tapert, has revealed that the movie is a very important addition to the franchise. He revealed that Evil Dead Wrath, directed by Francis Galluppi, will actually take audiences back in time. Tapert explained that the story will be set in 1972, and the film serves as a prequel.

According to the producer, Evil Dead Wrath follows a French woman living in the US who finds herself trapped in a toxic marriage. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that her husband may be abusive. To make things worse, his family refuses to acknowledge her suffering, leaving her isolated and surrounded by people who make her life miserable.

The franchise originally centered on Ash Williams, portrayed by Bruce Campbell, in the first three movies, The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness. The original trilogy was directed by Raimi. Over the years, the property has expanded beyond just films, it has also inspired comic books, video games, and even a stage musical.

Although Evil Dead Wrath won’t premiere in theaters for a few more years, fans of the franchise can still look forward to Evil Dead Burn, which will arrive on July 10, 2026. The upcoming movie is a standalone film and is directed by Sébastien Vaniček, who also co-wrote the screenplay. The movie focuses on a grieving family who reunite after the death of a relative. While gathering in an isolated house, they encounter evil spirits. The cast includes Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Erroll Shand, Maude Davey, and George Pullar.

Evil Dead Wrath will be released in theaters on April 7, 2028.
