Elden Ring Is Officially Returning With A New Game

FromSoftware games really do seem to have their own little place in gaming folklore, with the developer spawning an entire genre and garnering a huge and dedicated fan base across all the world’s major regions. Though the Dark Souls franchise is probably still their biggest IP overall, Elden Ring certainly has a claim to the throne, and thousands of players continue to return to it each day.

The tricky RPG is enormous in its ambition, and when combined with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, it really is one of the most compelling RPG packages of the last decade or more. As such, any new release is worthy of our attention, and the latest brings the game to an entirely new players base, who may not have given it a go yet.

As first reported by RPG Site, Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is now available for pre-order via the eShop for $79.99 ahead of its launch on August 28 for Nintendo Switch 2.

This latest version of the game is actually something of a de facto definitive edition, with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC included in the price, as well as some new additions in the form of armor and customization options for Torrent, the Spirit Steed. At the same time, you can also secure some additional bonuses by pre-ordering the game, including two Gestures – The Ring and The Ring of Miquella.

In confirming the news to fans, Bandai Namco shared the following statement:

“Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, the open world action RPG from FromSoftware Inc. and Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., is now available for digital preorder on Nintendo Switch 2. The game invites Nintendo players to enter the Lands Between and the Realm of Shadow, bringing the original game that received more than 400 “Game of the Year” nominations to the console. The title will launch on August 28 for Nintendo Switch 2.”

That last bit is obviously very important, because those who were hoping to get in on the action on the original Nintendo Switch console won’t be able to, with the game exclusively restricted to the most recent iteration of the console.

You’ve still got a couple of months to secure your pre-order of the game before the bonuses go away. You could certainly do a lot worse than playing through Elden Ring and its associated DLC heading into the Autumn months, particularly while we all wait for GTA VI to upturn everything come November.
