Dragon Ball Reignites Goku vs Vegeta Rivalry With Surprise New Release

Goku and Vegeta’s rivalry is an integral part of the Dragon Ball narrative that has spanned multiple decades of both anime and manga and the franchise’s latest release is set to take fans back to where it all began for these two characters.

Per the official Dragon Ball website, Banpresto’s Match Makers series is releasing separate figures of Goku and Vegeta. These figures, which lack any moving parts or articulation, recreate the very first fight between the two characters in the Dragon Ball Z anime. Both fighters are depicted crouching in their fighting stances before their clash, with Goku wearing his orange training Gi and Vegeta wearing his blue-and-white Saiyan battle armor.

Vegeta’s figure stands 4.7 inches tall, while Goku’s is slightly taller at 5.1 inches. In Japan, the figures will be distributed exclusively as crane game prizes. Meanwhile, international audiences can purchase the figures separately through specialty retail stores such as BigBadToyStore. The figures are priced at US$28.99 each and are currently available for pre-order, with shipping scheduled to officially begin sometime in July 2026.

Goku and Vegeta’s First Fight Recreated in New Dragon Ball Release

The new release captures the start of Goku and Vegeta’s battle from the Saiyan Saga. Vegeta initially offers Goku an opportunity to join his side to conquer the universe together, but Goku refuses the offer. Following this exchange, both characters assume their fighting stances, which are captured by the two figures respectively.

The rivalry between these two characters began with this straightforward battle, in which Goku fought to save Earth from the Saiyan prince. However, as the series progressed, Vegeta’s character transitioned from villain to ally, and their rivalry shifted from antagonism to a competition to see who is stronger.

Since then, Vegeta has consistently trained hard to surpass Goku’s power levels. While Vegeta admits that Goku is the superior fighter at the end of the Majin Buu Saga in Dragon Ball Z, he did secure his first victory against Goku on Beerus’ planet in the Dragon Ball Super manga.

The Match Makers series focuses on recreating classic duels from across the Dragon Ball franchise. Every character released in this line is designed to be paired and displayed with an opponent to complete a battle scene.

Although the figures are designed to interact, they are made available individually rather than in a dual pack. These non-articulated figures feature detailed sculpting and are often seen as a budget-friendly option for collectors.

This is not the first time that these two characters have featured in a release from this figure line. Previously, the Match Makers series released a figure set that recreated Goku and Vegeta’s sparring match from the Dragon Ball Super manga. Earlier this year, the manufacturer also released a Goku and Goku Black figure set in this series.
