Although Star Wars Outlaws didn’t sell as well as Ubisoft hoped, it still spawned a loyal fanbase, and over time, the game was updated to address some of its technical issues near launch. It also hasn’t stopped the Star Wars machine from cranking out a prequel book, which fans are really taking to.
When in doubt, it’s easy to fall back on various forms of media for Star Wars, as has been the case since the original trilogy (OT). When the Star Wars expanded universe was at its height, there were tons of official works exploring the galaxy and Star Wars lore as a whole, and many concepts were later adapted by Disney.
On Ubisoft’s website, we have official confirmation that a Star Wars game is coming soon. Unlike Outlaws, though, it’s something pretty much no one could predict.
Set to debut on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S on June 30, Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains is the latest Star Wars game from Ubisoft.
This isn’t standard Monopoly, though. The Heroes vs. Villains moniker is doing a lot of heavy lifting here, as you’ll be able to assemble your team of heroes ranging from multiple eras, from the prequels to the sequels. Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Boba Fett are confirmed, among many others, like General Grievous and Captain Phasma. In all, there are 28 characters to choose from, each with unique abilities.
2v2 and 3v3 modes are included, as the “showdown” element permeates throughout the entire experience. Multiplayer is a huge focus, so if you’re a Star Wars family, it could be worth picking up for a game night. Couch co-op is thankfully confirmed, as well as online play.
If you’re interested, there’s a pre-order bonus too: “Unlock two unique in-game dice skins inspired by the classic Tatooine scavenger Jawa and iconic Galactic Empire Stormtrooper.”
For reference, the game was slightly delayed, as Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains was originally set to release on June 11. More Star Wars games are also in the works, including Star Wars Zero Company, which recently got a date of August 27, 2026.
Even though Star Wars Outlaws wasn’t a hit, it opened up a whole new part of the galaxy for fans, and the prequel novel has been better received than the core game. It just goes to show you how deep the well of Star Wars really is. If at first you don’t succeed, expand, expand, expand.
