Dragon Ball Officially Reunites Goku & Bardock in New Father-Son Limited Release

Dragon Ball is finally giving fans the long-awaited reunion between father and son in this epic collaboration between Goku and his Saiyan father, Bardock. This overdue team-up sees Goku combining his might with his estranged father in order to take down a familiar foe.

Dragon Ball Legends officially revealed a brand-new Zenkai Awakening featuring Goku and Bardock, in a match against Frieza, as he was depicted in Dragon Ball Z. Goku himself appears in his traditional look, albeit in torn-up clothes ravaged from battle, while Bardock assumes his familiar Saiyan warrior outfit from Dragon Ball Z: Bardock – The Father of Goku.

In this official first look, Goku and Bardock launch a nonstop assault on Frieza that ends beautifully with the two Saiyan fighters firing a combined Kamehameha-like wave at their archenemy, taking him out with a “Legendary Finish!” This spectacular upgrade is coming soon to Dragon Ball Legends, available on mobile devices and PC via Google Play Games.

Dragon Ball Legends Celebrates 8th Anniversary with Epic Goku & Bardock Zenkai Awakening

Although the selling point of the Zenkai Awakening function is to give older fighters a much-needed buff to stay competitive and relevant, it’s the character interactions that truly make them worth owning in the first place. The brief, yet powerful interactions between Goku and his biological father fulfill a fantasy that Dragon Ball fans have been dreaming of, ever since the initial release of the 1990 TV special.

“This time around, we really did it,” Goku says in the new Dragon Ball Legends trailer. “Yes, we were able to change our destiny,” says Bardock. The father-son combo of Goku and Bardock comes as Dragon Ball Legends celebrates its eighth anniversary, which took place on May 31, 2026.

As part of the monumental milestone, Dragon Ball Legends brought back “legendary” singer Daichi Miura to reprise his performance of “Blizzard,” originally released for 2018’s Dragon Ball Super: Broly, as the game unleashed Super Saiyan God SS Gogeta and Broly: Rage to its ever-growing roster.

The jaw-dropping fight between Gogeta and Broly in Dragon Ball Super: Broly is among the highest-rated fights in the franchise. Additionally, the revival of Broly and Gogeta in the official mainline series was well-received by fans worldwide.

40 years later, Dragon Ball is more alive than ever before, with a variety of new projects lined up this year and the next. Among the new highly anticipated projects is an official remastered version of Dragon Ball Super, scheduled for a fall 2026 release.

However, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is just an appetizer. The real main course will be the official anime sequel to Dragon Ball Super, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, which will finally adapt the fan-favorite (and formerly manga-exclusive) “Moro Arc” into animation.

The Dragon Ball anime franchise is available to stream on Crunchyroll. Previous chapters of the Dragon Ball Super manga can be read digitally on the Viz Media and Manga Plus apps, as the series continues its hiatus.

The cast of Dragon Ball Z, including characters such as Son Goku, Vegeta and Piccolo, among others, leaps towards the camera in the poster for the show.
