Chris Evans Confirms MCU Return After Avengers: Doomsday

Chris Evans is sticking around the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Doomsday. The upcoming crossover movie will not be the actor’s final appearance as Steve Rogers in the shared universe.

On Sunday evening, Instagram user Jessica Zborowski (comicconmomsi) shared a video message from Evans that her husband had gotten a few months ago as a gift to her for their 20th anniversary. In it, Evans seemingly confirms that he will be back for Avengers: Secret Wars, saying, “I can tell you that in a couple of months, I start work on the next one.”

While Evans never outright says that “the next one” is Secret Wars, the Instagram post’s caption that the video message was “from a few months back” rules out Doomsday, as the timelines do not line up. Doomsday was in production from April to September 2025, while Secret Wars is set to begin filming in mid-2026.

Evans first appeared in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger as Steve Rogers/Captain America, a role he reprised the following year in Marvel’s The Avengers. Over the course of the 2010s, Evans appeared 12 times as The Star Spangled Man before departing the franchise in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

After reports emerged that he would appear in Doomsday, Marvel Studios confirmed Evans’ MCU return in December 2025 with the first teaser trailer for the crossover movie. “I said I would only come back if there was a real reason, and in Doomsday, there is a very real reason that these heroes need Steve Rogers ‌now,” Evans said at CinemaCon 2026.

Chris Evans Won’t Be Wasted in Avengers: Doomsday

Evans is one of the many MCU all-stars set to appear in Doomsday. Other heavy-hitters fans can expect to see in the crossover movie are Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor), and Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom), among others.

Despite the massive cast, Doomsday will not feel bloated, at least that’s what Sentry actor Lewis Pullman revealed back in March. He explained that “every character has their moment that builds the dimensions of them. The Russo brothers did that so well. They do not want anyone just sitting in the background. They really took to heart the responsibility of having some of the best actors in the world all together.”

Doomsday will be the first live-action Marvel movie to feature the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four sharing the screen. All three superhero teams are expected to return in Secret Wars, which serves as a direct sequel to Doomsday.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars almost a year later on Dec. 17, 2027.
