A new RPG that blends the high fantasy tropes of Baldur’s Gate 3 and the treasure-selling shenanigans of Moonlighter can already be tested out for free, following its full release a few days ago. Given the popularity and quality of both titles, it’s no surprise that new games would be inspired, even if slightly, by them. An upcoming game promises to mix BG3 and Split Fiction on Steam, for example, but there are many other titles that draw inspiration from popular RPGs.
Now, another promising game has just been released, and players can check out a free demo. Available on Steam, the demo gives players access to a short portion of the game, which was released on June 1. The demo is entirely free and does not have any strings attached. All you have to do is head on over to its product page and add it to your library permanently. Following this, you just need to download and play the demo.
The new free demo on Steam is for a game called Arcane Merchant. Developed and published by Findie Studios, the title is a shop-keeping management simulation game set in a medieval fantasy realm where you’ll stock your shelves with various magical items and sell them to gain a profit, which will help you to continue expanding your shop and gaining more money. You’ll organize your shop the way you want and try to attract customers by offering good, but profitable, products.
Even though you may see a lot of inspiration drawn from Baldur’s Gate 3 and Moonlighter, for example, mechanically speaking, Arcane Merchant looks and feels a lot like the highly praised TCG Card Shop Simulator, which was released in Early Access earlier this year. The shop management mechanics and the progression system will feel extremely familiar to anyone who plays it, be it the full version or the free demo.
Arcane Merchant has the potential to be one of those games that are considered “addictive” with the potential to steal your life on Steam, thanks to its expansive gameplay loop and, mainly, its visible progression system. If you do find yourself hooked after checking out the demo, know that the indie game is on sale at a 10% discount until June 15.
You can often find freebies on the platform, many of which are demos that lead to some outstanding games. Not all of these demos get put under the spotlight, so having knowledge of them can help you get the chance to know games like this new RPG and many others.
