Alan Ritchson Officially Leads New NY-Based Film From ‘The LEGO Ninjago Movie’ Director

This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.

Alan Ritchson has been making some interesting career choices since breaking out on Reacher but this is certainly one we didn’t see coming. Following his Netflix sensation, War Machine, along with his upcoming swing Motor City and this Christmas’ The Man With the Bag, all eyes were on his next move. Well, this is a surprise.

Ritchson has joined the cast of Groove Tails, directed by Bob Logan, whose animation credits include The Lego Ninjago Movie and The Croods: A New Age. The film is described as a four-quadrant, music-driven animated adventure set in New York, where rhythm rules and individuality reigns. The story follows an enthusiastic young mouse who dreams of becoming a famous dancer, only for his father to dismiss those ambitions.

The cast includes Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver), Halle Bailey (The Little Mermaid), Chris Ludacris Bridges (Fast & Furious), J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm), CeeLo Green (Hotel Transylvania), and Agnez Mo (Reacher).

Logan said the film is built around music, self-expression, and finding the courage to follow your own path. “Groove Tails is a celebration of individuality, perseverance and the universal language of music,” Logan said. “We’ve assembled an extraordinary cast that brings incredible energy, humor and heart to these characters. This is the kind of movie audiences of all ages can enjoy together.”

The movie is produced by Academy Award-winning producer Maryann Garger (If Anything Happens, I Love You) and Imprint Entertainment founder Michael Becker. Garger is also producing Paramount’s upcoming animated Avatar: The Last Airbender feature. Executive producers on Groove Tails include Jeff Elliott, Mary Aloe, Gilian Hormel, Jeff Gum, Graham Chan, and Ritchson.

“From the beginning, our goal was to create a film that blends high-voltage, magnetic entertainment with the emotional resonance of a classic family adventure, delivered with flawless, premium artistry,” Garger and Becker said.
