2027 Is A New Era For Final Fantasy 7

The age of silence has come to a close, as 2027 marks a huge year for Final Fantasy 7. And, as many have failed to realize, this could possibly be the last great era for the part of the JRPG franchise that changed the genre forever.

Thanks to a massive new release, and a long-awaited crossover, however, if FF7 is going out, it’s going out with a bang. The final game in the FF7 remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was announced to be releasing in 2027 and, at the same time, it was revealed that Tifa Lockhart would be coming to Street Fighter VI as a playable guest fighter.

The ending of the new FF7 story is almost here, as Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the last game in the remake trilogy, is launching in Spring 2027. While no release date has been given, it would be great if it could launch on January 31, 2027, as that marks the 30th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy 7‘s Japanese release.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is the culmination of what fans have waited twelve years to see. Not only is it wrapping up the story, but it’ll finally feature all the playable characters, with Vincent and Cid being added to the party. The entire world is also opening up to the player, with the party now able to travel between locations using the Highwind ship.

Those who have followed the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series since 2020 have had a ton of questions about the new storyline. What happened that led to the creation of this new timeline, and why is Sephiroth aware of the previous one? What’s going on in the alternate reality with Zack? What happened to Aerith at the end of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth? Fans have been pondering these questions for years now, and it’s time for Square Enix to finally reveal the truth behind the strange new world, and the fate of the previous one.

Tifa Is Coming To Street Fighter 6 Next Year

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation isn’t the only major Final Fantasy 7 event happening next year, as there is going to be a massive crossover involving the franchise. Capcom announced at Summer Game Fest 2026 that Tifa is coming to Street Fighter 6 in 2027, as part of the Year 4 DLC.

Final Fantasy is no stranger to fighting game crossovers, with Cloud and Sephiroth appearing in Super Smash Bros. and Noctis appearing in Tekken 7. There were even discussions about bringing Cloud to Soulcalibur 2 back in the day. Tifa marks the series’ first crossover with Street Fighter, outside of Cloud and Sephiroth facing Ryu and Ken in Super Smash Bros., and she’s the perfect fit for the game, being a brawler who uses punches and kicks. Sure, Cloud is the more popular character, but he wouldn’t fit in as well with his massive sword.

Street Fighter 6 marks Tifa’s first chance to throw hands with the likes of Chun-Li and Cammy, as well as Mai Shiranui and Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury. The only people mad about her reveal are Tekken 8 fans, as they had been pushing hard for her inclusion, but in the end, it was Capcom that won this bout.
