Warning: Spoilers ahead for Masters of the Universe!
They have the power! Masters of the Universe unveils the greatest heroes and villains of Eternia, from the legendary He-Man to the villainous Skeletor. Nearly forty years after the first live-action adaptation of the iconic cartoon and toy line, Masters of the Universe is finally back on the big screen.
In the new reboot, audiences are introduced to some truly powerful characters. Some tow the line as mercenary pawns of larger threats, while others determine the fate of Eternia by their actions. These are the strongest characters in the new Masters of the Universe movie.
Trap Jaw Has His Moments, But Isn’t Eternia’s Most Powerful Villain
Trap Jaw is a cyborg mercenary enlisted in Skeletor’s army to help take over Eternia. He was part of the initial raid on King Randor’s castle at the beginning of Masters of the Universe, helping overthrow the royal family and establish a new regime. He is most recognized for his metallic jaw, which earns him his nickname.
Trapjaw gets a few exciting action sequences in Masters of the Universe, including one where he defeats Man-at-Arms. However, the mercenary only gets the better of the king’s right-hand man through his cunning, not any battle prowess. In fact, he was losing the battle handily before activating his hidden cannon. In actuality, Trap Jaw is in the lower echelons of Eternia’s villains.
Tri-Klops Is a Master Mercenary With Terrific Vision
Tri-Klops is another mercenary working for Skeletor in the new Masters of the Universe movie. He is known for his distinctive headband sporting a cybernetic eye that gives him multidimensional vision. This enhanced eyesight aids him in battle, where he prefers to wield a sword as his primary weapon.
Tri-Klops certainly has impressive abilities and is shown to be a worthwhile informant for Skeletor during the events of the film. However, he is far from the most powerful enemy that He-Man and his allies face. In fact, when the final battle comes, Tri-Klops is taken out rather easily, succumbing to the power of Eternia’s heroes.
Roboto Is a Cybernetic Battle Bot With Plenty of Firepower
Masters of the Universe unveils a new iteration of Roboto, a battle bot who helps the heroes of Eternia reclaim their kingdom. Although the character is typically depicted with a male voice, the movie takes some creative liberty by casting Kristen Wiig in the role. The Saturday Night Live alum adds extra humor to the character with her signature rapport, but Battlebot is still a formidable fighter.
Although the other characters talk frequently about Roboto’s incredibly powerful mechanisms, she rarely gets in on the action during the events of the film. The giant robot certainly has superb fighting skills that easily beat out those of other characters in Masters of the Universe. However, audiences simply don’t see enough of Roboto in action to put her higher on this list. Hopefully, potential sequels will give Battlebot more time to shine, as she so richly deserves.
Teela’s Strength Comes Entirely From Skill
Camilla Mendes stars as Teela, a member of Eternia’s royal guard and the daughter of Man-at-Arms. Teela grew up alongside Prince Adam, but always outshone him with her natural fighting abilities. As an adult, she helps Adam reclaim Eternia from the iron clutches of Skeletor and Evil-Lyn.
Teela is an incredibly impressive fighter, holding her own against extremely strong opponents without relying on gimmicks and tricks. Unlike most of the other heroes, she relies solely on her close-range fighting abilities and basic weaponry. While this perhaps makes her the most impressive fighter of the bunch, it also limits her potential to outrank the other major characters in terms of power levels.
Fisto Is Eternia’s Biggest Heavy Hitter
Fisto is one of Eternia’s Heroic Warriors and a member of King Randor’s royal guard. After Skeletor’s hostile takeover, he and a few other heroes take refuge in a secret base, hoping to find a way to restore Eternia’s rightful rulers to the throne. When Prince Adam finally returns, Fisto initially doubts him, but eventually pledges the young hero his full support.
Much of Fisto’s battle prowess comes from his signature metal hand, which he uses to clobber his opponents with maximum prejudice. While he abhors Adam describing his fighting style as “fisting people,” Fisto is nevertheless one of the more fearsome heroes in Masters of the Universe.
Man-at-Arms Is Eternia’s Most Seasoned Fighter
Idris Elba stars as Duncan, a.k.a. Man-at-Arms, in Masters of the Universe. Man-at-Arms is the head of King Randor’s royal guard, but fails to protect the people who matter most when Skeletor attacks. Fifteen years later, a drunken Duncan reclaims his mojo, helping Prince Adam reclaim Eternia and defeat the forces of evil.
Man-at-Arms is skilled in seemingly every form of combat, using weapons as a natural extension of his own body. He is dexterous, forceful, and quick to use deadly force when necessary. Not only is he one of Eternia’s most powerful warriors, but also one of its most qualified teachers when it comes to training the next generation of fighters.
Evil-Lyn Is a Powerful Sorceress Who Shouldn’t Be Underestimated
Evil-Lyn is a powerful sorceress portrayed by Alison Brie in the new Masters of the Universe film. She serves at Skeletor’s right hand, advising him on how to defeat He-Man and the other heroes of Eternia. Although she only uses her power when absolutely necessary, she is shown to have quite formidable abilities.
Evil-Lyn is more than happy to let Skeletor’s lackeys do her dirty work, and therefore only leaps into battle at the end of the movie. However, she proves to be quite powerful, even using her magic to momentarily freeze He-Man in place. Nevertheless, she ultimately puts up less of a fight than her master, who proves to be the biggest threat that Eternia has ever faced. Upon a return in a potential Masters of the Universe sequel, Evil-Lyn needs to show exactly what makes her such a dangerous villain.
Skeletor Is the Biggest Threat to Eternia
Jared Leto plays Skeletor in the new Masters of the Universe movie, stealing the show as Eternia’s resident villain. A nightmarish entity with a skull for a face, Skeletor is a terrifying antagonist who leads an army to take over King Randor’s kingdom during the film’s first act. He later faces down He-Man, nearly defeating him despite his connection to the Power of Grayskull.
Skeletor is an extremely powerful practitioner of dark magic, such that even a mere touch from his fingers is enough to drain someone’s life force. He also wields a powerful staff that gives him incredible close-quarter combat skills. The fact that Skeletor is able to withstand the Power even for a moment is enough to prove that he is the strongest of Eternia’s villains, even if he was defeated by He-Man in the end.
The Sorceress Is a Cosmic Guardian of Eternia
The Sorceress is a powerful mystical being whose mission is to defend the heart of Eternia, Castle Grayskull. Portrayed by Morena Baccarin, this nameless being is the one who sends Adam to Earth at the beginning of Masters of the Universe. She then presides over the events of the film, slowly leading Adam on the path to becoming a true hero.
Masters of the Universe only shows a portion of the Sorceress’s immense power. Her magical abilities are nearly limitless, though they are shown only sparingly in the movie itself. While she may very well be the most powerful character in the Masters of the Universe franchise, the new film only hints at her full potential.
He-Man is the Most Powerful Man in the Universe
Leading the new Masters of the Universe movie is Nicholas Galitzine as Adam Glenn/He-Man. Although he was always known for being small and weak as a child, Adam eventually grows to become Eternia’s greatest hero. Thanks to the Power of Grayskull, he transforms into the hulking He-Man, giving him the strength to take back the kingdom and defeat Skeletor.
As He-Man, Adam is one of the most powerful beings in the universe. The full potential of the Power Grayskull is beyond mortal comprehension, giving its wielder the strength to defeat any foe. As Adam continues to learn how to wield this power, he only grows stronger, solidifying his place as the most powerful character in Masters of the Universe.
