It’s Officially The End Of An Era For Marvel And PlayStation

While we have known Marvel’s Wolverine’s release date for months, Insomniac had been dangling a carrot in front of gamers since that announcement about further details being shared in “spring 2026.” That time recently came, with Insomniac sharing an extended look at Marvel’s Wolverine gameplay during PlayStation’s State of Play.

Additionally, Marvel’s Wolverine’s pre-orders are now live for each of its available editions. Gamers can secure themselves some iconic and exclusive Wolverine skins and claw cosmetics via the Digital Deluxe edition, but fans who consider themselves enthusiast collectors/consumers won’t be able to help but acknowledge and be disappointed by the fact that Sony is discontinuing one of its best traditions regarding Insomniac’s blockbuster Marvel games.

When the Marvel’s Wolverine Standard and Digital Deluxe editions were revealed, it didn’t take long for fans to notice that there was no trace of a Collector’s edition. Sadly, on Twitter/X, Insomniac has since confirmed that there will not be a Collector’s edition for Marvel’s Wolverine.

This is unfortunate and surprising news due to Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games having excellent Collector’s editions. Their respective statues alone are fantastic, with Marvel’s Spider-Man’s featuring Spider-Man perched on a mound of the Sinister Six’s armor/equipment (hidden in pre-release marketing in order not to spoil who the game’s main villain was), and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s featuring Peter Parker and Miles Morales’ Spider-Men battling a meme-worthy “19 inches of Venom.”

There wasn’t a Collector’s edition for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, to be fair.

Collector’s editions, or any miscellaneous editions that include physical goodies or a premium statue that fans cannot acquire otherwise, have always been popular. It was quite special when a Collector’s edition was announced for Elden Ring’s story expansion, featuring a statue for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’s Messmer, the Impaler, for example, and such editions have come to be expected of many AAA first-party games.

Marvel’s Wolverine not having a Collector’s edition won’t be a deal-breaker for a lot of players, but it’s easy to see how anyone who fought tirelessly to get their hands on Collector’s editions for Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be upset that there’ll be no Marvel’s Wolverine statue to add to their collection. Many fans believed that a possible Collector’s edition statue for the game could depict Wolverine with a severed Sentinel head, representing Wolverine’s Sentinel battle in Marvel’s Wolverine, and it appears as if the actual fight in-game must suffice.

Marvel’s Wolverine is scheduled to be released for PS5 on September 15, 2026.
