The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake may just be one of Nintendo’s most expected yet biggest announcements in recent memory. After endless rumors confirmed its existence, Nintendo revealed but a sliver of what it had to offer and little else. It was nice to get an official announcement, but fans were undeniably expecting a lot more, at least beyond a shot of Link sleeping.
Naturally, with the game releasing so soon, Nintendo is sure to announce even more details in upcoming Directs and new Ocarina of Time trailers. Luckily, it has, in a roundabout way, recently done exactly that, as a brand-new gameplay teaser has revealed quite a few key details about the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, including just how much of a remake it will be, and a little on exactly what this version is adapting, and what it is changing from the original.
As spotted by GameXplain, the official listing for the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on Nintendo’s website had a hidden description for the game that was only available by checking the page’s source code. Dedicated fans discovered the description and began sharing it online, as it gives a significant amount of insight into the kind of remake that Ocarina of Time will be. The description reads:
The N64 classic reborn as a full remake for Nintendo Switch 2. Experience Ocarina of Time with stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay.
There is a lot that can be inferred from Nintendo’s choice of words in this description. Naturally, many were expecting stunning visuals and updated designs from the initial Ocarina of Time reveal trailer, as both could be seen with the gorgeous new cutscene. However, the most important part of this new teaser is the mention of “timeless gameplay.” This could imply that Ocarina of Time remake’s gameplay is exactly the same as the original, thus largely making the remake a 1:1 adaptation, rather than anything with significant changes.
That wouldn’t be a huge surprise, considering the recent Star Fox remake is exactly that, a visually updated, but mechanically identical adaptation of the original version. It is also what we’ve seen with past The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time versions, such as the 3DS remake, so Nintendo wouldn’t exactly be doing anything unexpected here. Fans are already split on Ocarina of Time’s divisive gameplay, as many were hoping that cut content or even new additions would be added to supplement the current crop of mechanics and ideas.
Since fans discovered the new gameplay teaser on the official website, Nintendo has removed it.
Of course, it is also possible that “timeless gameplay” could refer to the new and updated mechanics, which Nintendo believes will be beloved for years to come. Rampant speculation will only get one so far, and this somewhat vague gameplay teaser certainly doesn’t help matters. However, it is the closest we’ve gotten to truly understanding the type of remake Nintendo hopes to deliver with 2026’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and indeed just how much of the original classic will be faithfully adapted, and how much will be updated to appease modern gaming sensibilities.
