X-Men Star Reveals Cancer Diagnosis: “I Start Chemo Today”

Actor and former pro wrestler Tyler Mane has publicly announced he has cancer. The movie star has since shared an update on how he’s feeling after starting chemotherapy.

Mane, known in part for his X-Men franchise role as the live-action Sabretooth, revealed in a social media post that he’s been diagnosed with breast cancer. As Mane noted, this is “super rare” for men, as males only account for 1% of breast cancer diagnoses. While he was apprehensive about going public with the news, Mane chose to share his story in order to help raise awareness. The Halloween star noted his goal to have the subject discussed, encouraging others to get checked out themselves, potentially catching it early.

Tyler Mane Aims to Increase Awareness for Male Breast Cancer

“I’ll be honest, my first reaction was to keep it secret. I mean it’s kind of embarrassing,” Mane stated. “But then I found out that men are more likely to be diagnosed in advance stages BECAUSE it’s not talked about and not looked for. In fact, my doctors all dismissed it and it was only because my wife pushed me to get the lump removed that I got in early.”

He added, “So let’s start talking about it! 1 in 755 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and if caught early, it’s VERY treatable. Time to answer the Wake Up Call! Like, Save, Share, Comment let’s spread the word!”

Mane has since shared a new video providing an update after four days of chemo. He vowed to continue sharing updates throughout his journey, and offered his thanks to everyone who’s been sending messages of support, which has been what’s keeping him “going.”

“I thought I was a superman. Turns out it was just the steroids they give you for the first few days of treatment!” Mane wrote. “Side effects started in earnest last night. All things to be expected, I just thought maybe I’d get out of them this round because I had been feeling so well the first few days. But no. I ended up with some neuropathy in my feet and hands, leg cramps, some bone pain from the bone marrow support shot I got the day after treatment, dry mouth, and I don’t know what’s going on with my insides but it isn’t enjoyable. For me OR my wife.”

He continued, “BUT none of that matters! I’m keeping going! I am continuing to move and continuing my challenge, even when I don’t want to, and even when I suck at it like this morning! I’m working to cycle this stuff out of my body and get me onto the other side of treatment.”

Comic book fans may know Mane best as Sabretooth, a role he reprised in 2024 for the hit film Deadpool & Wolverine. Meanwhile, horror fans also know him very well as the actor who plays the hulking Michael Myers in Rob Zombie’s Halloween movies. These and other roles have made Mane a popular guest at conventions, which he attends regularly as someone who enjoys interacting with his fans. Many of those fans have been showering Mane with support on social media.
