Uncharted 5 Tease Has Gamers Seriously Excited

Since the franchise began with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune back in 2007, the beloved Naughty Dog action-adventure series has gained worldwide popularity. With its protagonist, Nathan Drake, often hailed as the male Lara Croft, it is no wonder that the Uncharted franchise has captured the hearts and minds of fans for the past two decades (almost!)

However, with 2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End seemingly marking the end of an era, fans have been left wondering if Naughty Dog will ever return, but with the studio finding success in The Last of Us, as well as working on its brand-new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, it would seem as though a potential Uncharted 5 will have to wait its turn.

That being said, it was just this weekend that fans were treated to an insider report over a potential Uncharted 5 after Jordan Middler shared some exciting information on the VGC podcast. Speaking about the recent Xbox Games Showcase, Middler said, “Uncharted. Obviously a new Uncharted is coming, like it’s on the way. But then they left Uncharted at its peak, and didn’t do a new one for a very long time.”

It is hard to believe that it has been a decade since the latest Uncharted entry was released, and as Middler explains, the popularity of the series really was at its peak back then. As such, will it be too late for a potential Uncharted 5? Should Nathan’s story have come to an end with Uncharted 4, or will another installment finally shine a light on another character, such as his daughter Cassie?

We simply do not know, and it is worth taking Middler’s comment with a pinch of salt. However, that did not stop fans from taking to r/GamingLeaksAndRumors to share their thoughts.

“What does Uncharted even look like in 2027/2028? Very curious to see what direction ND goes in,” one comment read. Another said, “After Uncharted 4 essentially perfected the Uncharted gameplay formula, I’m intrigued as to where they can even go. Personally, I’d love another Chloe-focused game. Lost Legacy was fantastic.”

However, it was one comment that stood out more than most and definitely put Naughty Dog’s docket into perspective. “I mean, yeah. We know that Naughty Dog is working on two projects, one of them being Intergalactic,” they shared. “The other is probably led by Shaun Escayg. Since it would be very risky working on two new IPs, the other is either Uncharted or The Last of Us. I can’t imagine Druckmann not directing a TLOU game, so it’s probably Uncharted. The question is whether it’s a sequel with Cassie, one with Chloe/Nadine/Sam, a prequel with a young Sully or an Uncharted 1 remake.”

With Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet being the only confirmed title to currently be in development at Naughty Dog, the floor remains open for the continuation of Uncharted. However, for now, it is worth taking any rumors with a pinch of salt.
