Metroplex is one of the biggest Autobots in Transformers, and he helped usher in the concept of Titan Class “city bots.” Now, one of his more recent incarnations is set to receive a new action figure courtesy of 01-Studio.
The new 01S-18 Fortress figure from 01-Studio is based on Metroplex’s appearance in the video game Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Absolutely dwarfing many official Transformers releases, this toy is truly worthy of the Autobot’s gigantic acclaim. While still seemingly in the prototype stage, it promises to be one of the biggest takes on the character yet.
Metroplex’s Newest Toy Towers Over Previous 01-Studio Transformers Figures
01S-18 Fortress recreates Metroplex’s appearance in Transformers: Fall of Cybertron to a T, with both of his modes having an extensive amount of detail. This is especially true in robot mode, where the toy’s front and back are loaded with visual elements that convey the Autobot’s size and scale. He’s loaded up with shoulder cannons and all kinds of blasters laid across his body, turning him into a gigantic weapon.
Per the images on the 01-Studio Weibo account, his arms are especially massive, though his head is somewhat small relative to his overall size. The Autobot is almost 20″ tall when measured up to his head, with his mighty shoulder and arm cannons reaching even higher. One image shows him next to a picture of 01-Studio’s version of the Chaos Bringer Unicron from The Transformers: The Movie, with Metroplexeven bigger than the dark cosmic god.
As in the game, Metroplex transforms into a version of his classic city mode, though it’s essentially a combination of his Generation 1 city mode and battle station mode. Along with the cannons and firearms already present in robot mode, this form adds even more firepower to the front of the city, made up of Metroplex’s legs. The images show that the toy is still in the grey prototype stage, with no release date or price decided yet.
The year does mark Metroplex’s 40th birthday, however, as he debuted full-on in Japan as part of the Transformers: Scramble City OVA. He also technically appeared in 1986’s The Transformers: The Movie, where he was an untransformed section of Autobot City (officially established as Chattanooga, TN, near Lookout Mountain).
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron was released in 2012 and served as the sequel to Transformers: War for Cybertron. Both were loose reimaginings of Generation 1 elements while also serving as prequels to the “Aligned Continuity” seen in works such as Transformers: Prime.
