Tom Cruise had nothing but positive words for Steven Spielberg after watching the legendary director’s new film Disclosure Day. The two previously collaborated 21 years ago on War of the Worlds.
Cruise shared a post from the theater where he saw Disclosure Day, where he reunited with his War of the Worlds co-star Dakota Fanning and his Minority Report co-star Colin Farrell. In the photo, Cruise can be seen holding a bust of Spielberg’s likeness wearing a hat with Disclosure Day‘s logo on it. “Nothing better than a summer Spielberg movie night in a packed theater with friends!” Cruise wrote on the post, which was shared to X (formerly Twitter).
Tom Cruise Praises Steven Spielberg’s New Sci-Fi Film
Cruise continued his message with some love for the director, writing: “Steven, thank you for all of the hours of joy that you have given us in the cinema!! It has been a great honor and pleasure to have worked with you and to call you my friend.”
He wrapped up his message with some words for the cast, with the film starring Emily Blunt. “Congratulations to d [sic] the entire group of artists that created this movie. You were superb. We all loved Disclosure Day!!”
Cruise isn’t the only one loving Disclosure Day. The film was released on June 12, and it already has rave reviews from both critics and audiences. It is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with an approval rating of 81% from over 270 critics’ reviews. From over 1,000 verified audience ratings, 75% are positive.
“A humanistic variation on one of Steven Spielberg’s most revisited themes, Disclosure Day‘s breathless pursuit of optimism in an age of conspiracy gets its biggest boost from career-highlight work by Emily Blunt,” the Rotten Tomatoes Critics Consensus reads. Audiences offered similar praise, often asking for a sequel as well as complimenting Spielberg’s creative vision.
Disclosure Day sees Earth on the brink of World War III when a whistleblower and a Midwest weather reporter race to reveal the existence of aliens to the world — all while a villainous agency tries to stop them. “The truth belongs to eight billion people,” the film’s logline teases.
Spielberg Reveals if Disclosure Day is Linked to Close Encounters
Disclosure Day may be Spielberg’s latest film, but it’s far from his first foray into the sci-fi genre. With the film taking on a similar plot to his 1977 sci-fi film Close Encounters of the Third Kind, many have wondered if the two films might be linked in some way. Spielberg recently opened up and revealed whether the two projects have a connection.
“It is not a sequel in any way, shape, or form to Close Encounters,” Spielberg revealed, citing key differences between the films. “I really don’t believe that governments can keep secrets, but big tech companies can,” he said, referencing Disclosure Day‘s antagonistic forces that are covering up alien encounters. “Wardex is operating outside constitutional restraints, and they hold all this knowledge, and they are the ones that are trying to get it back from our whistleblower heroes.”
Disclosure Day is now playing in theaters.
