The Boys has just come to the end of a very successful five-season run on Prime Video, with the show going out in the gory blaze of glory that most of us were expecting. The show serves as a biting satire on modern society, and the superhero genre more generally, and the central part of that dynamic is the character of Homelander.
Homelander is the most powerful supe in the Vought International organization, and an absolute psychopath to boot, with actor Anthony Starr doing a pretty masterful job of bringing the character to life. That said, all good things must come to an end, and the character’s appearance in other properties have already used another actor entirely.
In case you missed it, several other releases have been cropping up around The Boys as a franchise, and Homelander features in those played by a new actor. Specifically, Jake Green has taken the proverbial reins for the character’s appearances in both Mortal Kombat 1 and new(ish) VR title, The Boys: Trigger Warning.
If you’ve heard him in either game then you’ll know what a brilliant job he did, with the voice relatively indistinguishable from the one Starr employed in the show. Over on social media, fans have been reacting to the performance, and it’s safe to say it has all been received quite positively.
“Cool that they got a few of the shows cast to voice their characters in it. Jake Green nailed it has Homelander!” one comment posted on Reddit, about Trigger Warning.
At the same time, another thread details how Green was revealed as the voice behind the character in MK, and fans were full of compliments once again.
“I thought the VA wanted to remain anonymous? But Green did a good job and got the mannerisms down really well so I don’t think it’s important who voiced him only that he did his job and did it well,” one comment read.
“He did a great job. Some of the lines are a little rough but as far as impressions go, I’d give him a thumbs up,” a third said.
We don’t have any news yet on potential future appearances for the Homelander character, and who will be playing him if he does show up again. The original run of The Boys is locked in now, though, so if you haven’t had your fill of the absolute nutter then you can always go back to that.
