Survival Thriller That Made 7X Its Budget Returns With Deadly Sequel In Fall 2: Deadpoint Trailer

A Fall 2: Deadpoint trailer has arrived after the first movie became a sleeper box office hit.

Fall was released in 2022 and made on a reported budget of $3 million. It went on to gross $21.8 million worldwide, the success of which led to a sequel going into development. The original movie is a survival thriller centered on best friends Becky Connor (Grace Caroline Currey) and Shiloh Hunter (Virginia Hunter) as they climb a 2,000-foot tall radio tower and are stranded at the top. Fall ends with Shiloh dying and Becky ultimately surviving.

Lionsgate has now released a trailer for the sequel, Fall 2: Deadpoint, where Jax Hunter (Harriet Slater) and Luce (Arsema Thomas) attempt to complete the plank walk on Mount Kwan. Jax is Shiloh’s sister while Luce was one of her friends, and their new adventure is meant to be a tribute. The trailer opens with a backdrop of the mountain and lets viewers know that at 11,000 feet, oxygen drops to 13.7%, which causes heart rate and blood pressure to rise, and makes breathing more rapid. Check out the trailer below:

Elsewhere in the trailer, a man’s voice, which comes from actor Tom Brittney, can be heard asking if anyone reads him. The text emphasizes that panic accelerates dehydration, which leads to severe confusion, hallucinations, impaired judgment, and fear. The footage ends with Thomas’ character screaming as she falls off the mountain and begins quickly descending, which can also be seen in the poster below.

The poster mentions that the sequel comes from the producers of Obsession, which refers to James Harris and Mark Lane of Tea Shop Productions. Similar to Fall, their recent horror movie was made on a small budget, in this case somewhere between $750,000 and $1 million, and it is now making a massive profit, which as of this writing is $161.5 million globally. Reviews for Obsession have also been positive, leading to a 96% critics’ score and 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

In addition to being produced by Harris and Lane, Fall 2: Deadpoint was directed by brothers Peter and Michael Spierig, written by Jonathan Frank and Scott Mann, with Mann, David Haring, and Christian Mercuri producing as well. The film will be released in U.S. theaters on September 2 and does not yet have a finalized rating or runtime.

Along with being a box office hit, the first movie had a solid reception, with a 79% score from critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. ScreenRant‘s Fall review was not as favorable, though, as Graeme Guttmann gave it four of 10 stars, emphasizing that “it relies so heavily on the idea that heights are scary (even if its protagonists don’t think so) that there’s not much left beyond that by the end of the film.” He also took issue with how Mason Gooding and Jeffrey Dean Morgan were underused in the story.

Due to the connections to Shiloh, her fate, and the events of the first film, Fall 2: Deadpoint builds on what came before, but is still a new story, and one that appears to be fully accessible to those who may not have seen the 2022 movie.

Fall 2: Deadpoint releases in U.S. theaters on September 2.
