Right now, there are a ton of good deals on Steam. Sales lend themselves nicely to the week of Summer Game Fest, where a ton of new titles were just shown off. Plus, it’s the end of an era for Steam, so there’s a lot going on.
Amid all the headlines, there are still tons of free games being dropped on Steam daily. Sometimes they come in batches, and on other occasions, they pop in sporadically. The latest deal is something you’ll want to check out for yourself.
Over on Steam now, you can find a brand-new game that debuted to 100% positive reviews as of the time of publication. It’s also 100% free, with no strings attached.
Chasing Wiskers was crafted as a student project over the course of 24 weeks, and it’s currently completely free on Steam. Lovingly developed by a “passionate cat-loving team at Breda University,” fans are really taking to it so far, as evidenced by the positive reviews.
Here’s the full breakdown of this unique adventure: “Catch cats in this cozy adventure game! After falling into Catworld through an interdimensional portal, you must find your missing cat by completing errands for Ponpon, the local Cat Café owner. Chase, catch and collect until you can find your way home! This game is made by students.”
So far, reviews are mainly centered around the vibe of the game: “Chasing Whiskers is honestly a really cute game with a lot of charm The art direction is adorable and I love the whole concept of chasing and catching different kinds of cats. There’s definitely potential here considering how early in development the game feels right now.”
Another notes: “Very cute game and I love that it was made by students! One thing I had to do was make sure it was using my gfx card and not integrated graphics because it was making my laptop scream. However that may be an isolated incident. Worth checking out for a few hours of fun.”
Some reviews cite the rough edges due to the nature of the project, but also take notice of its potential. In some ways, the idea of cat-catching reminds me of the Ape Escape series in the best way.
Remember, it isn’t free-to-play or free for a limited-time, it’s completely free, so you can take your time picking it up. In the meantime, there are plenty of other freebies to claim.
If you’re a big Steam fan, you know the pain of a backlog. But Chasing Whiskers is a breezy way to pass the time without involving yourself in a massive time sink.
