Star Trek Officially Returns With New Ro Laren Story in 2027

Paramount Games and Bloober Team are about to send gamers to the most harrowing corner of the Star Trek universe yet.

Newly formed publisher Paramount Games and Polish studio Bloober Team have officially announced their upcoming game, Star Trek: Shadow Frontier. The new title is currently slated to arrive sometime in 2027 and will offer what is sure to be the tensest, most thrilling Star Trek gaming experience to date with its dark, foreboding setting and mind-bending mechanics.

Star Trek: Shadow Frontier Takes the Franchise Where It’s Never Gone Before

Star Trek: Shadow Frontier will drop players into the role of former Starfleet Lieutenant Ro Laren, voiced by Michelle Forbes, whose mission to rescue an old friend leaves her stranded on a strange, distant planet that is itself seemingly enveloped by an ominous alien consciousness. Apart from the treacherous terrain she must traverse, Ro will have to deal with an increasingly tenuous grasp on the world around her, as her fractured mental state is worsened by a world that seems intent on breaking her connection with reality entirely.

Players will have to face off against all manner of alien creatures and monstrous threats during their playthrough of Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, all while avoiding environmental hazards that are equally lethal. Fortunately, Ro will have access to her Tricorder and Phaser, giving her an opportunity to scan and learn about what this new world has to offer and fend off its deadliest denizens. As per the official game description for Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, “Only by solving the mysteries of this strange world can Ro hope to make peace with the demons of her past, boldly going into the heart of darkness like never before.”

Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno wrote in the official announcement statement for the game, “We’ve been waiting a long time to finally share what we’ve been working on. As lifelong fans of science fiction, Star Trek has always held a special place in our hearts. By combining that passion with what we do best, horror, we’ve partnered with Paramount to create something truly unique: a new adventure set in a beloved universe, enriched with our own signature layer of dark, psychological thriller.”

Head of creative and production art at Paramount Games Studios, Shawn Kittelsen, added, “We’ve long admired the way Bloober Team crafts deeply immersive, atmospheric experiences that keep players on the edge of their seats. For Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, it was essential to partner with a studio that could both honor that legacy and push it forward. The formation of Paramount Games was announced on June 5, with the new studio serving to unify all the existing Paramount and Skydance gaming studios, including Skydance Interactive and Skydance New Media, in an effort to “transform world-class IP into immersive franchise experiences” as noted in the official announcement.

Incoming president Tony Driscoll recently said of the news, “This division launch marks a meaningful evolution in how we think about games – not as an extension of our business, but as a core pillar of our content strategy alongside film, television, and streaming.”

Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is currently expected to arrive in 2027.
