Daredevil enters the fray in Spider-Man: Brand New Day art.
Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock already has experience on the theatrical side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Years after Netflix’s The Defenders Saga shows were canceled, including Cox’s Daredevil, the actor returned as Matt in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, fans never got to see Daredevil and Spider-Man team up wearing their superhero suits. As Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s cast was being built up, many were wondering whether Daredevil could make an appearance, especially since Jon Bernthal’s Punisher will show up in the upcoming MCU movie. New Marvel art imagines that before the second Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer rolls around.
On Instagram, @getupser imagined what Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man teaming up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day could look like.
The MCU fan art expands on the first Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer’s reveal that the red ninjas from the Hand will be appearing in the 2026 Marvel movie. While Spider-Man fights them solo in the footage, Cox’s Daredevil assists him in the MCU art, still wearing the orange prison jumpsuit he last had in the Daredevil: Born Again season 2 finale. Matt might not have his Daredevil suit on, but he uses billy clubs to fight the ninjas.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 ended with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin leaving New York City, exiled and defeated after Vanessa’s death and the city turning against him. While Wilson Fisk felt trapped but was physically free, the exact opposite was happening to Daredevil. Matt was last seen going to prison for all the laws he had broken as Daredevil after he revealed to the world that he was the hero in order to take Kingpin down. While he was locked away in a tiny cell, Matt smirked, showing Daredevil had won and was in his element.
The fact that Daredevil was last seen in prison and Spider-Man fights the Hand, villains associated with Cox’s Daredevil in the MCU, at a prison of all places, might be more than a coincidence. Add the fact that Bernthal’s Punisher, who made his MCU return after the end of Netflix’s The Defenders Saga in Daredevil: Born Again season 1, is in the movie and works with Holland’s Spider-Man, and it becomes even more likely for Matt to show up, as Frank Castle could point Peter Parker in his direction to break the hero free before the Hand gets to him.
That said, given the grounded nature of Daredevil: Born Again, one of the MCU’s best shows, its prison storyline being resolved in a fantastical movie, rather than in season 3, where the impact of Matt’s arrest could be deeply explored, seems unlikely. Having Daredevil and Spider-Man team up on the big screen, this time as their superhero personas, would be amazing. However, Bernthal’s Punisher already fulfills that quota of street-level MCU crossovers without sacrificing the course of Daredevil: Born Again‘s story. With the second Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer set to release soon, perhaps the prison scene’s context will become clearer.
