Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver Switch 2 Release Unites Gamers

Released back in 2009 as remakes of the 1999 Game Boy version Pokémon Gold and Silver, Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver took players to both the Johto and Kanto regions of the Pokémon universe as part of its fourth generation.

With the aim of making the remake both respect fans of the original and welcome new players to the franchise, Nintendo received positive reviews for Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver, and by March 2014, it had gone on to sell over 12 million copies, causing the two games combined to become the eighth best-selling video games on the Nintendo DS.

Despite already receiving a remake, it has been almost two decades since fans saw the last iteration of Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver, and with technology progressing quite a bit since 2009, it would be interesting to see how this beloved Pokémon entry will fare for modern-day consoles, especially the Nintendo Switch 2.

Remakes of some of our favorite classic games are all the rage lately, with games such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Star Fox receiving upcoming remakes in 2026. However, with so many Pokémon games dating back to the 90s, it would be near impossible to release remakes of them all, especially with new mainline entries such as Pokémon Winds and Waves also set to arrive in 2027.

Nevertheless, Twitter/X user Stealth made an interesting suggestion recently when they posted, “If Nintendo put Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver on the Switch & Switch 2 eShop, they would sell millions. Just saying…”

Of course, the arrival of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver on the eShop could just come in the form of its original 2009 versions as part of Nintendo’s Classics collection. However, this could also refer to some sort of remake or remaster. Nevertheless, it was not long before fellow Pokémon fans descended onto the comments to share their thoughts.

“I can see a theme of them doing this for the Anniversary of Silver/Gold and coincide with a DS App for the Nintendo Switch 2 Online Service,” one user suggested. However, another had different hopes, adding, “Naw man, that has to have an actual physical release, and all the Mystery Gift items.”

With many saying that Soul Silver was such an important part of their childhood, with one user saying, “There was something about Soul Silver that lit up my whole mood,” Stealth may be correct in guessing that a rerelease of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver could indeed sell millions.

With a myriad of mainline titles and spin-offs under its belt, we all have our favorite Pokémon entry, and we would all love a way to play some of the classic entries without having to jump through hoops to access them. Hopefully, with both remasters and remakes becoming more popular over recent years, the Pokémon franchise will receive the same treatment.
