A new Tomb Raider release has been announced ahead of the upcoming Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst games, and its authoritative take on Lara Croft lore will make it essential to any fan of the franchise.
2027 will see two major Tomb Raider games release – the Legacy of Atlantis remake, and new game Catalyst – as well as Amazon Prime’s TV series, showrun by acclaimed writer/actor Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
However, before these new entries, fans will have a chance to lay their hands on a new definitive lore bible, set to amalgamate the franchise’s many different continuities into a single timeline, creating the Chronicles of the Tomb Raider.
Official Tomb Raider Lore Bible Finally Fixes Lara Croft’s Timeline
Dark Horse recently announced Chronicles of the Tomb Raider – an exhaustive history of Lara Croft’s adventures, seemingly forging them into a cohesive canon.
While Tomb Raider is a hugely popular franchise, it’s never had much of a cohesive continuity. The videogames have rebooted canon multiple times, with several films (some canceled), an upcoming TV show, and a mountain of spin-off comics and novels starring the pistol-wielding archaeologist. With so much Tomb Raider lore in existence, it’s hard to know what Lara has officially done, and which of her allies and enemies officially exist.
Enter Dark Horse and Alex Forbes-Calvin who, in partnership with Crystal Dynamics, are presenting a definitive history of the character’s adventures. The book’s summary reads:

Writer Alex Forbes-Calvin is a writer and journalist with a long history tackling video game franchises, penning RuneScape: The First 20 Years, The Making of Assassin’s Creed and The Art of Dead Island 2. Meanwhile, Dark Horse began publishing Tomb Raider comics in 2014, with a series helmed by industry legends Gail Simone and Rhianna Prachett.
Before Dark Horse, Top Cow Productions published more than 50 comics under the Tomb Raider, Starring Lara Croft/Lara Croft, Tomb Raider title, including multiple crossovers with other Top Cow franchises including The Darkness and Witchblade.
The book will be a hefty 184 pages with an MSRP of $54.99, available in comic and book stores. The tome will present Lara’s adventures in chronological order, while including features on her supporting cast of characters and ruthless villains.

Chronicles of the Tomb Raider is set to become the definitive source for anyone looking back at the franchise so far, and that number will only increase as 2027 unleashes a cornucopia of new adventures.
With new games and a TV show starring Game of Thrones‘ Sophie Turner, Lara Croft hasn’t been this in demand since her ’90s heyday.
