Naruto just dropped the best recap video fans could have possibly asked for as part of Boruto‘s tenth anniversary celebration.
Viewers now have the chance to catch up with the entire Boruto story courtesy of a video recently posted to the official Naruto/Boruto YouTube channel. Titled “Boruto: Road to Two Blue Vortex,” the compilation video walks audiences through the events of the Boruto saga so far, effectively giving them everything they need to know before diving into the latest volume of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex for themselves.
Boruto Launches 10th Anniversary With Road to Two Blue Vortex Teaser
The Boruto franchise kicked off with the release of Boruto: Naruto the Movie in 2015, just one year before the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga by Ukyō Kodachi, currently Mikio Ikemoto, debuted in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump. The hit Naruto follow-up series, currently published in V Jump, revolves around the titular Boruto Uzumaki, the son of the original series’ protagonist, Naruto Uzumaki and Hinata Hyuga and the brother of Himawari.
At the series’ outset, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations follows Boruto and his allies as they carry out a brazen mission to rescue Naruto from the clutches of Kaguya’s successors, Momoshiki and Kinshiki Ōtsutsuki. After securing Naruto and dealing with his enemies, Boruto’s story spirals into its own adventure, unlike any that fans of the Naruto franchise had seen before.
The original Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga ran for a whopping 20 volumes before coming to a close in 2024. In February 2025, the series returned, this time rebranded as Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, picking up several years after the events of the titular hero’s defeat, with both Naruto and Hinata trapped in a timeless dimension under Kawaki’s command.
So far, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has amassed eight volumes and counting, with the most recently released tankōbon edition arriving in stores on June 4. With the ongoing series enjoying its tenth anniversary just ahead of the highly anticipated Boruto: Two Blue Vortex anime adaptation, 2026 seemingly couldn’t be a better year for fans, even if the future of the series doesn’t look exactly how they expected it to previously.
In January, Studio Pierrot president Michiyuki Honma confirmed that the next Boruto series will be moving away from the weekly episode model that has defined so many other series. Instead, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex will be developed, produced, and debut as part of regular seasons, which will help to ease crunch for animators and other creatives. More importantly, it will ensure that the anime adaptation doesn’t accidentally catch up to its source material, leading to a forced downtime that could ultimately kill the production entirely.
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations animation director, assistant animation director and key animator Kyohei Ebata also offered some key insight into the next animated series that has fans both on the edge of their seats and mildly concerned.
Specifically, Ebata described the production of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex as being “So serious that there’s no room for original anime content.” While this almost guarantees that audiences won’t have to worry about filler episodes, it also means the adaptation will translate the manga more or less directly, leaving little room for creative interpretation on the part of Studio Pierrot.
