Minecraft Releases New Chaos Cubed Update

After being announced back in March 2026, Minecraft has finally released the Chaos Cubed update for both the Bedrock and Java editions of the game, bringing a slew of new content and fixes. Minecraft made a big appearance at the latest Nintendo Direct, revealing that Mojang’s blocky sandbox title is getting an official Switch 2 port later this year.

Mojang continues to support the ever-enduring Minecraft with new updates and ports. Just recently, the studio announced that Minecraft is getting an official Switch 2 port, featuring advanced lighting, volumetric fog, and a stable 60 frames per second. There is still no firm release date for the Switch 2 port, but the developer has a brand new update for the game on all platforms.

Minecraft’s Chaos Cubed Update Introduces New Mobs, Blocks, and Biomes

Mojang officially released Minecraft‘s Chaos Cubed update for Java version 26.2 and Bedrock version 26.30 on June 16, 2026, and it’s a big one. The most notable addition has to be the incredibly interesting sulfur cube, which the studio describes as a source of “endless experimentation and possibility” because it is the first mob that eats other blocks and changes its attributes accordingly, Kirby style. Additionally, the game now has brand new underground sulfur cave biomes, which are home to the sulfur cube mobs, as well as sulfur pools and sulfur and cinnabar blocks. And to cap it all off, Minecraft’s music library is getting a new addition with a music disc titled “Bounce,” which can be found in the sulfur caves inside abandoned mineshafts.

Minecraft‘s sulfur cube mob is likely to be a hit among fans of the game due to its unique nature. The sulfur cube has the ability to eat up other blocks and then manifest new properties based on what it consumed. For example, when the sulfur cube eats a wooden block, it becomes buoyant and bouncy, while a wool block would make it light and slow. Additionally, the sulfur cube can eat a TNT block, which some of the more inventive Minecraft players can likely find a good nefarious use for.

Meanwhile, the sulfur caves containing the sulfur and cinnabar blocks will surely keep Minecraft players busy for a long time. Players can locate sulfur caves by finding sulfur pools in the overworld and then digging to try to hit a sulfur cave. Inside, players can find the dark red cinnabar block and the yellow sulfur block, both of which can be used to craft all sorts of stairs, slabs, and walls in new colorways. How these new blocks and mobs will interact with all sorts of Minecraft mods remains to be seen.

The Chaos Cubed update marks the second of three major updates for Minecraft in 2026. Earlier in 2026, Minecraft dropped the Tiny Takeover update, which introduced tons of new baby mobs to the game, along with the golden dandelion item, which stops baby mobs from aging. The next big update comes this fall with the Dappled Forest update, which should introduce autumn-like forests filled with orange, red, and yellow flora, along with new wood types. Minecraft continues to evolve throughout the years, and fans may want to stay tuned for what Mojang does next with the game.

Minecraft Chaos Cubed Drop Patch Notes

Full patch notes can be found on the Minecraft website.

Bucket of Sulfur Cube

  • Need an easy way of getting your new Sulfur Cube friend from the Sulfur caves to your base? Sure, you could experiment with blocks to make the Sulfur Cube bounce, slide, or traverse long distances – or you can just scoop it up with a bucket and tuck it safely away in your inventory.

Sulfur Cubes

  • Sulfur Cubes are a new mob coming to Minecraft with a curious appetite for… blocks! Found in Sulfur caves, this curious mob transforms depending on which block the player feeds it. Experiment and discover how to send Sulfur Cubes bouncing, sliding, and more!

Sulfur springs

  • Found across the Overworld, you’ll know if you’ve spotted a Sulfur pool thanks to its Sulfur and Cinnabar blocks – and the noxious gas coming from it! But dig beneath these and you’ll discover a Sulfur cave, filled with new blocks to mine and a new mob to meet!

Potent Sulfur

  • The new potent Sulfur block is the reason why Sulfur springs are so bubbly – and a bit nauseating. You can also create hot bubbling pools by placing potent Sulfur beneath water! You’ll soon spy bubble columns, as well as puffs of noxious gas. Build with caution, because noxious gas will trigger nausea in players and nearby mobs!

Sulfur caves

  • Discover this new cave type, with shallow pools of water and glow lichen. Sulfur caves are filled with yellow blocks of Sulfur, red blocks of Cinnabar, Sulfur spikes, and a curious mob called the Sulfur Cube!

New block sets

  • You’ll find two new block sets in Sulfur caves – Cinnabar and Sulfur! These new blocks allow you to add rich reds and yellows into your builds, and each comes with its own full block set. Cobble them, craft with them, turn them into stairs or bricks – the choice is yours!

Sulfur Spikes

  • Sulfur Spikes grow on Cinnabar and Sulfur blocks, giving Sulfur caves a distinctive look. Unlike Pointed Dripstone, stepping on Sulfur Spikes is harmless, but they can still fall and hurt you – it’s just a pretty rare occurrence.

Geysers

  • Watch your step or you’ll go flying! Geysers form when a Magma block is generated or placed underneath a potent Sulfur block that’s submerged underneath 1 to 4 blocks of water. Use them for a vertical boost or a dramatic landscaping element!

Special block: TNT

  • Why would anyone feed a TNT block to a Sulfur Cube? To see what happens, of course! Try it out for yourself, ignite it, and enjoy (or deeply regret) the explosive results.

Special block: Magma

  • Play hot potato by having a Sulfur Cube absorb a Magma block.

Music

  • Added new music by composer fingerspit (Paula Ruiz) to the game

    • Added a new music disc with the song “Bounce” that may be found inside Minecarts with Chests in abandoned mineshaft structures within Sulfur Caves
    • Added new music tracks Ebb, Home, Memories, Nightly, and Shores to the main Menu music, Creative Mode music, and several biomes
  • The new music tracks will play in the following biomes:

    • Mesa
    • Bamboo Jungle
    • Cherry Grove
    • Desert
    • Dripstone Caves
    • Flower Forest
    • Forest
