The new Sorcerer Supreme seems to be one of Marvel’s most capable sorcerers, surpassing the magical knowledge of powerhouses like Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch. The mantle of Sorcerer Supreme is a highly demanding appointment, as it tasks a single magical juggernaut with protecting their entire dimension from threats that most superheroes can’t even comprehend. Armed with unique artifacts like the Eye of Agamotto and the Cloak of Levitation, Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme is the living shield maintaining the fragile boundary between reality and magical entropy.
Each major bearer of the Sorcerer Supreme title on Earth-616 has left a permanent mark. Agamotto established the parameters when he built the three Sanctums to protect the planet. Centuries later, the Ancient One brought a disciplined approach to the role by cataloging ancient texts to train future generations of sorcerers. Doctor Strange is peerless among sorcerers due to his countless victories against mystical threats. But currently, Wanda Maximoff adds a brand-new layer to the Sorcerer Supreme mantle, with reality-warping Chaos Magic and the forbidden knowledge she has found within the Darkhold.
Yet, not even Scarlet Witch, being able to access the wealth of knowledge amassed by all previous Sorcerers Supreme, knows everything there is to learn about magic, as shown by Marvel’s new Sorcerer Supreme.
The Quantum Realm’s Sorcerer Supreme Has Mastered Magic And Science
Sorcerer Supreme #7; Written By Steve Orlando; Art By Francesco Mortarino & Ruth Redmond
The new Sorcerer Supreme, Turin the Quantumancer, arrives just in time to help Wanda Maximoff contain a mystical orb threatening to swallow reality. This is the first time Turin travels from the Quantum Realm to Earth-616’s prime reality, which he calls “the Great Above.” Yet, he holds the key to saving Wanda’s dimension. Turin masters “Quantum Mysticism”, the combination of science and magic, which allows him to manipulate microportals, perceive them through interpsychometry, and detect phenomena like mystic hyperposition and eldritch algorithms. Turin can also see invisible forces using the “Pupils of Prince Putpravda,” and he processes all this information using his hypercomputing brain.
Turin knows the Astral Plane, which he calls the “Spectral Zone” in his native language.
Scarlet Witch realizes she wouldn’t be able to stop the orb by herself before it started destroying the fabric of reality, so she likely wouldn’t be able to realize it’s but a battle of a greater war if not for Turin’s Pupils of Prince Putpravda. Whether Turin is fully heroic is yet to be seen, but his quantum mysticism is an incredibly useful power. For years, both the Marvel Comics universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe have leaned on Clarke’s Third Law, which poses that “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” Turin the Quantumancer embodies this concept like no other Marvel character.
Turin The Quantumancer Opens The Door For A Deeper Exploration Of The Quantum Realm
Marvel’s Quantum Realm Is More Than MCU Ant-Man Synergy
Thanks to the MCU, the Marvel Universe’s microscopic plane has been explored through a purely science-fiction lens, tailored specifically for Ant-Man and Pym Particle escapades. However, the unexpected revelation of a Quantum Realm Sorcerer Supreme is a reminder that this dimension is a fully realized reality with its own mystical mechanics. Turin’s arrival promises to help Marvel’s Quantum Realm return to the glory of the former Microverse, no longer owned by Marvel. In Sorcerer Supreme #7, Turin puts his dimension into perspective: the Quantum Realm is a much bigger infinity than Marvel’s regular universe, as every atom houses an irrationally big fraction of it.

It’s Officially The End Of An Era For Marvel
Marvel just officially marked the end of an era, but even as some beloved properties are put to rest, the future looks bright.
With Turin guarding the microscopic, Marvel can move past standard terrestrial spellcasting to explore how magical laws function when subjected to micro-quantum physics. The traditional mechanics of magic must be drastically different inside this unique environment. For example concepts like probability-altering hexes, spell structures woven from subatomic particles, and ancient mystic fonts fueled by microscopic singularity events might open up new territory for future stories. And instead of fighting regular demons or extra-dimensional warlords, Earth’s sorcerers can now face completely unique microscopic threats capable of destabilizing reality at a subatomic level.
Do you think Turin is actually heroic?
