KPop Demon Hunters has become one of Netflix’s biggest hits, and it’s not over yet, as it’s coming back this month. Netflix has a wide variety of animated content, with some movies now ranking among the best animated movies of all time, making the streamer a worthy competitor in the world of animation. One of its most recent and biggest hits is KPop Demon Hunters, a musical fantasy animated movie bringing together the KPop phenomenon, action scenes, catchy songs, and demon hunting.
Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, KPop Demon Hunters introduces viewers to KPop sensation Huntrix, formed by Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. They are not only a global KPop phenomenon but also the latest demon hunters, and with their singing voices, they create a magical barrier against demons called the Honmoon. KPop Demon Hunters debuted on Netflix on June 20, 2025, and it quickly entered the platform’s Top 10, where it stayed for months.
KPop Demon Hunters became a worldwide sensation, and a sequel is now in development, though it won’t arrive as soon as the audience would like. Although the end of an era for KPop Demon Hunters has now arrived, the cultural phenomenon isn’t entirely over yet, and it has one more thing left to do now that its first anniversary is coming. Netflix will celebrate by bringing KPop Demon Hunters back to theaters, along with other activities for fans.
KPop Demon Hunters’ Successful Run Continues One Year Later
KPop Demon Hunters quickly broke records over at Netflix. According to Variety, KPop Demon Hunters became Netflix’s most popular movie of all time in August 2025, and the following month, it became the longest-running title on the streamer’s charts after its 15th straight week on the Top 10. That number only went up, and the record became harder for others to break as KPop Demon Hunters continued to dominate the charts. Even now, almost a year later, KPop Demon Hunters is still in Netflix’s Top 10 of kids’ movies.
Few movies can brag about having the level of success, popularity, and longevity of KPop Demon Hunters, so of course, Netflix had to seize the opportunity. According to Netflix, the celebrations for the first anniversary of KPop Demon Hunters will begin with theatrical screenings around the world, outdoor community screenings, sing-along events, and Netflix House locations having special activities. The countries joining the celebrations are the US, South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Israel.
On top of that, anniversary editions of the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack will be released on CD and vinyl, some of which will include stickers, collectible photo cards, and other treats for fans. The success of KPop Demon Hunters is definitely a reason to celebrate big, and it’s to be seen if its first anniversary will put it back into Netflix’s Top 10.
KPop Demon Hunters 2 Has A Huge Challenge Ahead
A couple of months after the release of KPop Demon Hunters, and after its huge success, Netflix announced that a sequel is in development. KPop Demon Hunters 2 will have Kang and Appelhans back as writers and directors, but the sequel will take longer than desired to arrive. In November 2025, it was revealed that the sequel would most likely be released in 2029, but in February 2026, it was suggested that it will likely not be finished by then.
KPop Demon Hunters 2 is planned to be larger in scale and more eventful, so it’s understandable that it will take longer to arrive. However, KPop Demon Hunters 2 has a huge challenge ahead, unrelated to how long the gap between movies will be. The success of the first movie set the bar very high for the sequel, and while it could definitely match the popularity and success of its predecessor, KPop Demon Hunters 2 will have a hard time surpassing it.
KPop Demon Hunters 2 will definitely have to be bigger in terms of narrative, animation, and music, while also expanding its universe and adding to it, if it wants to repeat the impact of the first movie. Until then, it’s to be seen if KPop Demon Hunters will have a new popularity boost after its return to theaters and how long it will last.
