Keanu Reeves’ Next Movie Is The Perfect Combination Of Two Of His Biggest Roles

Keanu Reeves has a promising and unique movie on the horizon that looks as though it will utilize his experience from two of his biggest film roles to date, even though they couldn’t be in more different. The lasting fame of Keanu Reeves has seen him be a household name ever since the 90s, thanks to his star role in the Matrix movie series.

However, the Matrix films are by no means the only prominent releases Reeves has appeared in over the course of his career, as Keanu Reeves was, of course, also the titular lead in the John Wick movie series, and has appeared in a truly varied range of films and shows as well, with everything from Bram Stoker’s Dracula to The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run and DC League Of Super Pets under his belt.

Fascinatingly, Keanu Reeves’ next movie role is set to combine the two major spheres he’s most well-known for by putting him in a major action role wherein his voice acting experience will also be of key and focal importance, suggesting we’re about to see a truly special addition to Keanu Reeves’ filmography shortly.

Keanu Reeves’ Next Movie Should Be Helped By His Experience In His Two Biggest Film Roles

As per Variety, Keanu Reeves is set to play the lead role in the upcoming stop-motion feature Hidari. The movie will be a full-length extension of the animated short that was released previously, which drew inspiration from the legend of the craftsman Hidari Jingoro who is said to have existed in the Edo period.

Hidari will see Keanu Reeves take on the role of Hidari Jingoro following the character losing his father and his right arm after being betrayed by his peers, leading the protagonist to go on the revenge path in a story that’s sure to have plenty of action and drama – and a unique way of displaying both, given the stop-motion figures are crafted from wood in a way that leaves this visually clear, intended to mirror Hidari’s own wooden carvings.

Of course, Keanu Reeves taking on the role of a revenge-driven action protagonist naturally means Hidari has parallels with Reeves’ role as John Wick, especially given the actor is effectively synonymous with John Wick thanks to his time playing the role to this day.

Interestingly, the fact Reeves will work as a voice actor in Hidari also means the movie is set to draw from a very different role, in the form of Keanu Reeves’ most famous recent spot of movie voice acting and best practice in the medium thus far, when playing none other than Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

The Hidari Short Film Already Makes Keanu Reeves’ Movie Look Seriously Promising

While we can’t know exactly what the upcoming Hidari film will be like in its entirety, the Hidari short film pilot that released in 2023 – with the explicit intention of growing enough attention and funding to be able to adapt its story into a feature-length movie – paints a massively promising picture for what’s to come from the upcoming movie.

The intricate and unique style of Hidari is made readily apparent thanks to the woodcut characters used to animate the film, and it’s evident a huge amount of effort went into the artistic process of physically creating the stop-motion animation too, since the fights within it have a sense of weight and pacing that immediately immerse you in the story entirely.

With stop-animated movies often being the most underrepresented in the world of animation, the care that’s gone into making Hidari already – and the quality of what we can witness in what is effectively the movie’s extended trailer – certainly bodes well for Keanu Reeves‘ movie, and hopefully should help further the careers of many other talented individuals involved in the movie to boot.
