It was back in April 1953 that the character of James Bond was first introduced to the world with the launch of Casino Royale by author Ian Fleming. The book series would go on to welcome 11 novels and two short story collections, but it was only when it was adapted to the big screen that its popularity kicked off in earnest.
Starring Sean Connery as the loveable 007, Dr. No marked the first movie in the James Bond saga when it was released back in 1962, and from there, the English spy has become a household name and a cultural phenomenon. Since his portrayal by Connery, James Bond has gone on to welcome six more actors for the role, including the most recent, Daniel Craig, who starred in five of the official movies.
However, with fans having to say a teary goodbye to Craig in 2021’s No Time To Die, we have all been left wondering who the next actor will be with names such as Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson having their names thrown into the ring.
Patrick Gibson Is Already A Fan Favorite
That being said, fans have recently been left stunned after the launch of 007: First Light, a brand-new video game set in the James Bond universe and starring a much younger Bond in his early days at MI6. Portrayed by actor Patrick Gibson, fans were left stunned after his performance, with the Irish actor managing to capture the cockiness of Bond, as well as the naivety and innocence of a man in his early 20s in an unfamiliar world. As such, calls for Gibson to become the next live-action Bond have taken over the internet.
Whilst Amazon MGM Studios has not yet confirmed, nor hinted at, who will be the next Bond, it seems as though Gibson’s version of 007 is far from over, as IO Interactive recently shared its roadmap for the future of 007: First Light.
Our News James Bond Officially Returns This Year
It was during the recent Summer Game Fest event that 007: First Light fans were treated to the news that they could expect DLC to be released later this year. Set to welcome the return of the formidable pirate king, Bawma, both Gibson and Lenny Kravitz will reprise their roles. With Bawma playing a very small role in the base game, fans are over the moon for his return, but this is not all they can look forward to when it comes to 007: First Light.
That is because IO Interactive has revealed that its hit action-adventure game will welcome multiple new updates, including new TacSim challenges, a new gadget, New Game+, and a photo mode. I do not know about you, but I was calling out for a photo mode during my playthrough, with so many moments in the game deserving to be captured. Not only that, but with these updates part of 007: First Light‘s “year one” roadmap, this could suggest that IO has even more plans way into the future.
Whilst we may not have official dates for any of this new content, including the Bawma DLC, we can at least expect it to be within the next 12 months, and I, for one, cannot wait.
