Hololive’s Usada Pekora Just Got Canned After 7 Years – And That’s a Good Thing

The world’s most popular VTuber, Usada Pekora, has been canned, literally. The hololive star’s ongoing collaboration with Japanese liquor manufacturer Meiri Shurui is expanding once again with Hyakunen Umeshu Pekora Can, a new low-alcohol canned plum wine designed specifically for long streaming sessions and casual drinking.

The company also revealed that two finalized flavor concepts were developed during the development process: a lactic acid drink-inspired version and a honey-ginger variation. Pekora ultimately selected the honey ginger flavor for the final release. Meiri Shurui describes the drink as balancing a gentle sweetness with a sharper ginger kick meant to feel refreshing during streams and everyday viewing sessions.

The partnership between Pekora and Meiri Shurui dates back to 2019, when the VTuber first tried Hyakunen Umeshu during a Snack Usada livestream. Pekora’s blunt and highly enthusiastic reaction to the plum wine quickly became a memorable moment among fans, eventually leading Meiri Shurui to pursue an official collaboration inspired directly by the broadcast.

That relationship later resulted in the release of Hyakunen Umeshu Pekora Ver. in November 2020, followed by the more premium Hyakunen Umeshu Pekora Special in February 2026. While those earlier collaborations focused more heavily on traditional bottled plum wine, the new canned release is being positioned as a more casual and approachable entry in the ongoing partnership.

The can artwork was once again illustrated by Aoki Ume, who previously handled the artwork for both earlier Pekora liquor collaborations. The new illustration depicts Pekora in casual clothes that match the collaboration’s lighter, more relaxed theme. In a comment included with the announcement, Aoki wrote (“Congratulations on the release of Hyakunen Umeshu Pekora Can!”) before joking that the lower alcohol content meant even she could “keep drinking it easily.”

Outside the collaboration itself, Pekora continues to dominate the VTuber industry globally. Known for her chaotic comedy streams, competitive gaming broadcasts and signature “peko” speech pattern, the rabbit-themed entertainer has become one of hololive’s defining personalities since debuting as part of the agency’s third generation in 2019. The hololive talent reportedly reached 6.57 million hours watched in February alone, helping make her one of the world’s most-viewed VTubers that month. Her official YouTube channel, “Pekora Ch. 兎田ぺこら,” currently sits at roughly 2.77 million subscribers.

Pekora is one of the flagship talents under hololive Production, the virtual entertainment company operated by COVER Corp. The agency has become one of the largest names in the VTuber industry through its massive roster of animated livestream personalities spanning gaming, music, concerts and variety entertainment content.

The Hyakunen Umeshu Pekora Can eight-pack officially launches through Meiri Shurui’s online store on May 29 for 5,500 yen (roughly $35 USD).
