Years since Hogwarts Legacy first launched, fans are still waiting to see a reveal for its sequel. While Hogwarts Legacy 2 has essentially been confirmed for a while now, there hasn’t been any real concrete and official news regarding it, other than fans being told it’s in the works. Now, a number of Harry Potter fans around the globe are marking their calendars for an important date, which they believe will be the day a Hogwarts Legacy 2 trailer finally arrives.
Despite numerous rumors that we’d see Hogwarts Legacy 2 at Tuesday’s State of Play, the open-world RPG was notably absent. Over on Reddit, fans started to express their frustration. “No HL2 at the State of Play and I am so upset!” reads the post from a user named Intelligent_Wish4122. “Didn’t everyone and their grandmother say HL2 was going to be revealed?“
While a number of people, including the original poster, speculated the game might appear at Summer Game Fest on Friday, one user on Reddit had another suggestion: “Maybe the Back to Hogwarts event?” In this thread, that got upvotes and some responses, but it’s starting to be a common theory among Harry Potter fans.
If you’re a Wizarding World fan (and you probably are, since you’re reading this), then you likely already know that “Back to Hogwarts” is an annual event to mark the day that Hogwarts students head off to the school. As in the books and movies, that date is September 1. With the upcoming HBO Harry Potter show, and a number of Wizarding World games already out there, it’s likely fans will get at least a bit of news.
The real question, however, is whether any of it will be related to Hogwarts Legacy 2. As one person noted on Reddit, “I think HBO will want *everything* to be about the show between now and Christmas.” That’s a fair point, but considering how massively successful the first Hogwarts Legacy game was, it’s going to be a tough one for Warner Bros. to keep ignoring.
Assuming any news related to Hogwarts Legacy 2 arrives this year, then “Back To Hogwarts” on September 1 seems like as good of a guess as any. There is still Summer Game Fest, however, and The Game Awards 2026 in December. Both seem like venues where a Hogwarts Legacy sequel could debut, so Harry Potter fans should continue to keep their eyes peeled.
