GTA 6 Official Gameplay Footage Shows Off Enormous Map

After a frustratingly quiet period, Grand Theft Auto 6 has finally entered an active marketing phase again. Developer Rockstar Games flared up fan interest by announcing that pre-orders for the game will start on June 25, and the news was accompanied by a reveal of cover art following the franchise’s iconic paneled style.

Another reveal that accompanied this news, however, wasn’t broadcast in quite the same way. Rockstar also released a snippet of previously unseen game footage, and despite an incredibly brief runtime, the new clip highlights just how big Grand Theft Auto 6‘s open-world map of Leonida will be.

X user HYPEX shared the new clip pulled from the official Rockstar Games website, which features eight total seconds of fresh footage. In the video, the camera pulls backward across the metropolis of Vice City, offering an aerial view of the skyline lit up in front of a twilight sky.

This isn’t the first wide shot of Grand Theft Auto 6, but it offers the clearest look yet at the scope of Vice City itself. With boats churning through the waterways, cars milling about the streets, and helicopters flying overhead, the city appears undeniably alive even at a distance. A tower crane can also be seen at the end of the video, which might tease ongoing construction throughout the game similar to Red Dead Redemption 2‘s dynamic development over time.

While there isn’t too much to glean from eight seconds of footage, GTA 6 fans have become desperate for any new material. Hopefully, the drought will end soon, as the imminent pre-order window suggests that the long-awaited third trailer is likely on the way.

If a trailer corresponds directly with pre-orders opening, it should arrive on Thursday, June 25. Rockstar tends to release trailers on Tuesdays, however, so it might pre-game pre-orders with a trailer on Tuesday, June 23. Previously, parent company Take-Two Interactive only revealed that marketing would ramp up in the summer, which left the community unsure whether a trailer would come in June or if radio silence would persist until August.

Living up to players’ titanic expectations will be a challenge for GTA 6, but if the new footage is anything to go by, it’s certainly stepping up to the scale of challenge. Hopefully, Grand Theft Auto 6‘s gigantic map of Leonida will be filled with the detail and variety necessary to truly bring its grand scope to life.
