Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy Ending Officially Teased (Exclusive)

Final Fantasy VII Revelation dropped its first trailer last week, and ever since the big reveal, fans have been wondering how the trilogy will end. While fans will have to wait until 2027 to see its conclusion, FFVII Revelation‘s director, Naoki Hamaguchi, recently spoke with CBR and provided some insight into how the story will end.

When the FFVII Remake trilogy was first announced, most fans assumed that the game would be a straight adaptation of the original game’s story, but the first two games have diverged from the PS1 title in fascinating ways. FFVII Revelation won’t necessarily have the same ending as the PS1 game, and there might be some big surprises in store for fans.

Final Fantasy VII‘s original ending is somewhat ambiguous, and while some fans loved the ending, others wished it provided more clarity. While it’s not clear if FFVII Revelation will dramatically alter the original ending, Hamaguchi has made it clear that there are new things in store.

“[There are] hints that were left unanswered, questions that were left unanswered in the previous two installments, Remake and Rebirth. All of that is going to tie into this huge revelation that’s going to be shown in the third and final conclusion,” Hamaguchi told CBR.

Not only will FFVII Revelation‘s ending deliver a major revelation, but the beginning of the game will also have surprises for players. “The way that the story begins in Revelation is going to be pretty interesting for the fans to see, so I hope fans look forward to that part,” said Hamaguchi.

Some fans have speculated that Final Fantasy VII Revelation would have multiple endings, but Hamaguchi has confirmed to CBR that that isn’t the case. “I’m happy to clarify so that the readers and the audiences will not have a misunderstanding of how the game is going to play out,” he said. “There will only be a single conclusion for the story of this game. There won’t be multiple story endings.”

Even though FFVII Revelation will only have a single ending, it seems like every character’s personal story will wrap up in its own way. “As the party members head on to the final battle at the end of the story, they each have their own story about how they feel, what they’re thinking about, what they’re feeling, and the weight of what they’re carrying inside them,” explained Hamaguchi.

Hamaguchi also made comments that suggested characters would have optional side quests. “There’s going to be moments where it shows that for each…individual party member. How that’s going to be shown is going to be a bit different between players.”

What’s especially interesting is that it seems like completing these side quests could potentially add additional scenes to the game’s ending.

“In these character moments where we see the character is resolved as they go into the final battle again, the exact details of what’s shown from these characters, like what they’re thinking about, what they’re feeling, that’s going to be a bit different depending on the various characters. So again, the ending is going to be a singular experience, but the process of getting there might be a bit different between players,” said Hamaguchi.
