The long-awaited third entry in the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy was officially revealed by Square Enix at Summer Game Fest. The game, titled Final Fantasy VII Revelation, will wrap up the expanded version of the classic game’s story.
Final Fantasy 7 is one of the most popular games in the entire franchise, and the remake expanded on the original story in fascinating ways. Even though fans know how the original game ends its story, the remake could potentially go in a completely different direction, which is what makes this upcoming story so exciting.
Final Fantasy 7’s Ending Is Controversial
In the original Final Fantasy 7 on PS1, the party defeats Sephiroth and Jenova, but Meteor is still hurtling toward the planet. Summoning Holy isn’t enough to stop Meteor, and it looks like the world will be destroyed. Then, Aerith appears. The final cutscene shows the world 500 years later, with Red XIII running across a green landscape with two cubs.
The ambiguity of FF7‘s original ending proved to be polarizing. Some players hailed it as the greatest ending in video game history, while others were disappointed that the game didn’t get a more definitive conclusion. Later releases like Advent Children provided more clarity, but the final entry in the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy is an opportunity to end the story in a brand-new way.
This is a currently developing story and will be updated over time.
