Elden Ring New DLC Officially Releases August 2026

Elden Ring has felt like an absolute classic for more than six years now. Since its debut in 2022, it has caught fire with the gaming community almost instantly, with many viewing it as From Software’s best effort to date. Lightning has struck more than twice for From Software, but for this particular entry, things just worked out from every possible angle.

After all this time, we’re learning that the franchise isn’t quite done yet, as the studio is content to pump out multiple multimedia tie-in projects, including a feature film from director Alex Garland in 2028. That includes more DLC beyond the major 2024 expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree.

We’ve been waiting ages for it to drop, but thanks to a new announcement via From Software, confirmed directly to ScreenRant, we know the potential last bit of Elden Ring DLC is set for August.

For those of you who aren’t aware, Elden Ring Tarnished Edition will arrive later this year on Switch 2. Think of it like a “Game of the Year” edition of sorts, complete with the prior Erdtree expansion in tow, as well as the base game. When that happens, other platforms will be “available to purchase” the DLC, which includes extra content through the Tarnished Edition. Eligible platforms include PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, XBOX One, XBOX Series X/S, and PC (Steam).

As a recap, the Tarnished Edition includes:

  • Two new starting classes
  • New character armor
  • Torrent (horse) customization

Although the Tarnished Edition was revealed alongside the Switch 2 announcement a while back, it was eventually delayed through 2025 to give the port a little more time in the oven. Now, the time has finally come, as From Software is ready to unleash this particular edition and ship the Switch 2 port on August 28, 2026.

This is a pretty massive bookend for the game, and a good gesture to provide the Tarnished Edition content for folks who bought the game day one on other platforms. Many fans on older platforms would love a chance to play through this classic with tweaks.

In all likelihood, this seems like From Software closing the book on the original Elden Ring altogether. There really isn’t much further to go from here outside a sequel, as the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC already packs in a lot and brings the game’s systems to their limits.

If you’re a hardcore Elden Ring fan who replays the game regularly, though, you’ll want to spring on this DLC just to have a “complete” edition. Restarting with one of the new classes doesn’t sound like a bad idea either.
