A new RPG that mixes Dungeons and Dragons and KPop Demon Hunters is currently in the works, and fans of both or either may want to check it out, since it could enhance your games. The classic TTRPG is having a busy year, not only coming from official materials, like the recent Ravenloft: The Horrors Within sourcebook, but also fan-made 5e supplements. Later this year, a Bloodborne-inspired campaign setting for D&D is set to be released, allowing players to throw themselves into a new type of horror-based adventure, made by fans for fans.
Now, a new D&D 5e campaign setting and expansion is being created. The project, called Idols of the Neon Dark, was successfully funded and will be produced by Dan Thut and his team. The project’s initial goal on Kickstarter was $13,388, and it closed at $196,225 (at the time of writing). This means the project reached over 1,400% of its goal in funding, allowing several stretch goals to be unlocked for the upcoming module.
Idols of the Neon Dark is a fan-made D&D 5e expansion that takes place in the neon city of Lumenica. The city features several different sections, and while you’ll be able to play with whatever class you like, the expansion’s main feature is the new Idol class. The Idol revolves around characters whose magic manifests from presence, rhythm, and connection with others, represented by a mechanic called Harmonies – which may feel slightly reminiscent of Bards.
These characters can buff allies, disrupt opponents, and transform their actions into cinematic sequences. However, the main difference from the Bard class is that, with the five different subclasses that are being crafted, the idea is to have multiple performing Idol characters complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses, not unlike Rumi, Zoey, and Mira in KPop Demon Hunters. In this setting, you can participate in Idol-themed rivalries, political intrigue, missing relics, and much more.
The adventure module will feature mini-games, a crowd energy system, and other KPop-adjacent elements that will help build the world of Lumenica. The expansion also has other subclasses for existing classes in Dungeons and Dragons, like the Polyphony Domain Cleric. On top of that, players can also expect more playable races, such as the Fractalis and the Kumiho. Idols of the Neon Dark promises to offer you a delightful break from the traditional high fantasy epic stories most D&D fans are used to.
You can playtest Idols of the Neon Dark with the materials offered by the creator on the Kickstarter page. While the project has already been funded, you can still make a Late Pledge on the platform to grab a reward for what will likely be an outstanding new Dungeons and Dragons RPG module that’s inspired by KPop Demon Hunters.
