Super Saiyans are a rarity in the Dragon Ball franchise; almost as rare as female Saiyans. That’s why seeing a Dragon Ball character who is both a female Saiyan and a Super Saiyan is like striking gold — especially one who’s stronger than Son Goku.
The most well-known Super Saiyan women are definitely Dragon Ball Super’s Kale and Caulifla, who are technically the first-ever canonical female Saiyans able to turn Super Saiyan in the entire franchise. Before they were introduced in 2017, fans would have to look toward non-canon video games for a female Super Saiyan character, like Dragon Ball Heroes’ Viola, or Dragon Ball Fusions‘ Sesamy.
But as of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3’s latest reveal, it’s at least slightly easier to stumble upon a canonical female Super Saiyan warrior in the Dragon Ball multiverse.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3’s Jane 1000 Is Now The Latest Female Super Saiyan in the Franchise
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 was one of the most exciting upcoming DB releases announced during this year’s 40th anniversary Genkidamatsuri event. The game is not only the long-awaited sequel to one of the biggest Dragon Ball video games ever, it’s also potentially the last piece of Dragon Ball media that Akira Toriyama personally worked on and contributed new designs for, making it much closer to canon than prior DB video games.
And among those new designs Toriyama contributed to XV3, two of the most notable are definitely the player avatar characters, who fans have lovingly nicknamed John 1000 and Jane 1000 (named after Xenoverse 3’s initial codename, “Project 1000“).
While both Jane and John have rather simplistic designs, fans were recently thrilled to discover that John 1000’s Super Saiyan form gives the player avatar spiky hair like Goku’s, which was an issue players had with the main character avatars of both XV1 and XV2.
In the latest issue of V-Jump, a full-screen image of John 1000’s Super Saiyan form is shown (as seen in the lower left of the image above), and he finally has spikier hair akin to Goku’s.
This new look for John 1000 naturally has fans theorizing about Jane 1000’s Super Saiyan hairstyle, which still has yet to be revealed. Judging by the female Super Saiyan forms shown in the past, it’s very possible her hair could even be spikier than John’s, at least if Caulifla’s own SSJ form is taken into account.
Jane 1000 Is Already One of Dragon Ball’s Most Broken Characters Ever
Visual appearance aside, Jane may actually be one of the most powerful heroes in Dragon Ball history considering the new information V-Jump has revealed about her and John’s abilities in the game.
One of Jane and John’s abilities in particular, called “Soul Change,” allows them to take on the abilities and appearance of any fighter in the game. In the V-Jump article, John takes on the full appearance of Future Trunks, presumably appropriating all his powers.
This means Jane and John should technically be able to use the powers of Beerus or even Xeno if they wanted to — an ability that makes each of these characters more powerful than any other character in the Dragon Ball Universe, Goku and Vegeta included.
Additionally, even outside of Soul Swap, XV3’s new heroes can also switch their “Battle Styles” at will, allowing them to take on the fighting stance and moves or other fighters. The ability to take on the abilities and fighting style of any other fighter automatically makes Jane 1000 the strongest female Saiyan in Dragon Ball so far — and potentially one of the most powerful fighters in the whole franchise.
Female Super Saiyans Have a Lot of Potential in Future Dragon Ball Super Arcs
Jane 1000’s introduction in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is a great addition to the franchise’s roster, and could indicate a positive trend for female Saiyan representation in Dragon Ball’s future. Obviously, Jane 1000’s own abilities are already some of the most overpowered in the franchise, but she’s not the only female Super Saiyan with a lot of potential.
In Dragon Ball Super, Vegeta’s daughter Bra (also translated as Bulla) and Gohan’s daughter Pan are both young female Saiyans with a ton of untapped power. It feels like only a matter of time until they both become Super Saiyans just like Trunks and Goten did.
Pan is especially overdue for a Super Saiyan power-up considering she has still never gotten a canon SSJ form despite playing a central role in Dragon Ball GT. On the other hand, Bra has never had much fighting experience, though she was infamously the most powerful fighter in the entire series in the popular Dragon Ball fan manga Dragon Ball Multiverse.
It looks like Jane 1000 is already paving the way for a brighter future for Dragon Ball’s female Saiyans, and she hasn’t even shown off everything she can do yet.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC in 2027.
