Blumhouse’s Dead by Daylight is one step closer to the land of the living.

Blumhouse and Atomic Monster’s upcoming film adaptation of the popular horror game Dead by Daylight has officially secured its director, Thordur Palsso. The news was announced at an event in Montreal’s Old Port on the franchise’s 10th anniversary. Palsson is an Icelandic filmmaker who directed the 2019 crime drama series The Valhalla Murder and the horror movie The Damned in 2024.

Jason Blum explained that the massive horror franchise’s anniversary was the perfect time to share the new update. He also expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity to work with Palsson. The Blumhouse CEO stated that he was confident that the director would be able to adapt the video game for the big screen in a way that would both please its longtime fans and viewers who are unfamiliar with the Dead by Daylight franchise.

Horror icon James Wan (The Conjuring and Saw) praised Palsson’s work and his ability to make audiences care about his characters. Wan pointed out that when it comes to horror films, the only way to truly scare an audience is if they care about the person who is in danger. And, he believes that Palsson is more than capable of accomplishing that, especially after watching The Damned.
