Thanks to its stunning and lore-filled open-world, Cyberpunk 2077 has gone on to become a major inspiration since it was first launched back in 2020. With fans eager to immerse themselves in the world of Night City in whatever way possible, it was a dream come true when Netflix announced that it would be releasing a Cyberpunk 2077-inspired anime to the streaming service back in 2022.
As such, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was born, and it is now widely regarded as one of the best Netflix shows of all time. Taking place in Night City but following a brand-new bunch of characters, the story follows street kid David Martinez who joins a group of misfits known as Edgerunners who operate in the criminal underbelly of the city. It is here that he meets Lucy, a netrunner who he eventually falls in love with, but in Night City, there are no happy endings and their love story is inevitably cut short by Adam Smasher himself.
Ending on a heartbreaking note, it was just recently that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners fans were treated to the ending to David and Lucy’s story thanks to the collaboration between CD Projekt RED and Kuro Games.
As part of its Update 3.4, Wuthering Waves recently brought the world of Cyberpunk 2077 to its gacha world, and it seems as though this collaboration has been an instant hit, putting Wuthering Waves straight into the top 30 games on Steam. Welcoming Lucy and Rebecca to the game as playable characters, the DLC also features a heartwarming moment between the star-crossed lovers, and as a result, the Cyberpunk 2077 team has been “floored” by the reception.
According to SteamDB, Wuthering Waves recently hit a peak of 49,497 players and although the hit gacha game is a free-to-play title, this is still an incredible achievement and is thanks to its Cyberpunk: Edgerunners event, which sees the arrival of familiar characters, enemies, weapons, and locations.
Following the news of the impressive numbers, Cyberpunk 2077 quest designer and Cyberpunk 2 associate game director Paweł Sasko said, “We have done [a] bunch of collabs in the past, small and huge, and I have never seen response this insane from the community. I’m floored by the depth and quality of cosplay, artworks and memes. Wuwa and Kuro are truly blessed to have a playerbase this passionate and dedicated.”
With many fans calling this the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners sequel we all deserved, as well as featuring the happy ending that we have all been waiting for, it is no wonder that Wuthering Waves is hosting one of its largest player peaks yet, and we can only hope this success continues when the official second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners hits Netflix in the future.
