Warning: Contains spoilers for Berserk chapter #384.Berserk just dropped a major reveal about Guts that was 40 years in the making, and it changes everything we thought we knew about Guts. For decades now, the major question that’s been on everyone’s minds is what Guts could actually do to defeat Griffith and the Godhand; as beings who exist outside of reality and control the flow of causality, the Godhand are virtually indestructible, and there’s never been a clear idea of what Guts could do to overcome that.
Berserk has often made Guts’ quest feel like a fool’s errand, but Berserk chapter #384 has changed that with a massive twist. As Guts gave in to darkness and despair, a mysterious spirit dropped a shocking revelation about Guts: Guts being born after his mother’s death turned him into a being who exists in the interstice between reality and the astral world, essentially making him the same as Griffith and the Godhand. That changes everything people thought they knew about Guts and Berserk, and the implications of it are massive.
What Berserk’s Major Guts Reveal Means For The Story
For anyone who’s stayed up to date with Berserk, the reveal of Guts coming from the interstice is nothing short of massive. For starters, Guts being born of the interstice means that he exists outside of the flow of causality, which means that his very existence is an affront to the world. Because of that, it’s heavily implied that Guts’ constant struggling and suffering comes from the world reacting against his existence, and if anything, that makes Guts’ story even more tragic.
More importantly, though, is what it means for Guts’ conflict with Griffith and the Godhand. While the Godhand had been virtually invincible from day one, if Guts is a being from the interstice like them, then that means he should be able to hurt and kill them. The idea of Guts gaining the power to hurt Griffith was foreshadowed by Guts somehow removing one of Griffith’s hairs, and if that’s where the story is going, then that would be great to see.
