Apple TV’s biggest original hit, F1, is lighting up the streaming charts. And all before racing back to theaters for the upcoming sequel.
Per FlixPatrol, 2025’s F1 has officially claimed the No. 1 spot on Apple TV’s list of its top streaming movies worldwide. If that weren’t enough, F1 has also taken the No. 1 spot on the chart of the top-streaming movies on the platform in over 60 separate countries, firmly establishing its continued success.
Apple TV’s F1 Broke New Ground for the Streaming Giant
Joseph Kosinski directed F1 from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger. F1 raced into theaters last June to overwhelming box office success. The thrilling racing movie stars Brad Pitt as former racing star Sonny Hayes, who is approached by his old teammate Rubén Cervantes (Javier Bardem) seeking help saving his floundering team. Alongside rookie driver Joshua Pearce, portrayed by Damson Idris, Sonny returns to the track for one of the greatest chapters of his entire career.
Upon its release, F1 was met with rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, and went on to gross more than $634 million at the box office against a budget of around $300 million. This came as no surprise considering that F1 also amassed a near-perfect 97% audience-generated “Popcornmeter” score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, based on more than 10,000 verified user-submitted reviews.
F1 also took home a whole host of major industry awards. Among the dozens for which it was nominated, F1 won accolades such as the Supporting Actor Award for Idris at the 2025 Celebration of Cinema and Television, Best Editing at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, and Best Sound at the BAFTAs.
What Fans Can Expect from the Upcoming F1 Sequel
In September 2025, legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that a follow-up to F1 was officially in the works alongside several other sequels to massively popular movies. “We’re developing another Top Gun. Hopefully we’ll make another F1. We’re working on another Pirates [of the Caribbean],” Bruckheimer stated at the time.
Bruckheimer continued, “We’re working on a lot of different movies that have become successful, and hopefully we can get ’em all made… It’s the greatest thing to do, to entertain people. It’s not about the money anymore. It’s about the smile you put on people’s faces, the fact that you move them.”
Although story details for the upcoming F1 sequel remain tightly under wraps, there is no doubt the follow-up will involve yet another high-speed competition. However, it may not be the kind of racing experience audiences are expecting. The first F1 left off with Sonny heading into the Baja 1000, a far cry from the kind of events that were at the heart of F1, which could easily prove to be the perfect territory for a sequel to explore.
F1 is currently available for streaming on Apple TV.
