7 Legendary Pokémon Stronger Than MewTwo

When Mewtwo debuted in Generation 1, he was the undisputed king of the Pokémon world. A genetically engineered Pokémon cloned from Mew’s DNA and designed purely for combat, it defined what a Legendary Pokémon could be. However, as the franchise expanded, Game Freak shifted away from mutant science and started introducing cosmic deities, primordial forces of nature, and the creators of the universe itself.

Mewtwo is extraordinarily powerful, but he remains a mortal creature. Despite being devastating and fearsome, Mewtwo cannot warp reality, manipulate timelines, or tear open dimensions. The strongest Pokémon overlook time, space, and the very fabric of existence.

Arceus Is The God Of All Pokémon, Marking The Beginning Of All Existence

Arceus sits at the very top of the Pokémon universe’s mythology. According to the lore, Arceus hatched from a single egg before the universe existed and single-handedly created all of reality.

Arceus then shaped the very fabric of existence by creating the Creation Trio, which consists of Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, who were tasked with governing time, space, and antimatter respectively. After that, Arceus created the Lake Guardians, Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf, who gave all living beings knowledge, emotion, and willpower.

Arceus has a 720 base stat total, outclassing Mewtwo’s 680. Through the Plate mechanic, a trainer can shift Arceus into any of the 18 Pokémon types before battle, which easily counters Mewtwo’s greatest strength. A Dark-type Arceus is completely immune to Psychic-type attacks, depriving Mewtwo of its primary offensive arsenal.

Groudon Is The Continent Pokémon Which Can Terraform The Planet

Groudon stands as one of the most ancient and primeval titans in the entire Pokémon universe. This creature actively shaped the planet itself by creating landmasses and continents that all living creatures inhabit. Groudon controls magma, earth, and volcanic eruptions, and its rivalry with Kyogre is so catastrophic that when the two of them clash, the entire planet teeters on the edge of destruction.

Groudon also possesses a Primal Reversion form. When Groudon undergoes Primal Reversion, it becomes Primal Groudon and activates a powerful ability called Desolate Land, which generates intense sunlight so overwhelming that it evaporates all water on the battlefield entirely. This ability also negates all Water-type attacks.

Primal Groudon shifts to a dual Ground/Fire-type, and its base stat total jumps from 670 to 770, surpassing Mewtwo’s 680 by a huge margin. Mewtwo is a formidable force, but it still breathes air and walks on land that Groudon created.

Rayquaza Dominates The Skies And Carries Enough Power To Overwhelm Almost Anything In Its Path

Mega Rayquaza boasts a 780 base stat total, which ties with Mega Mewtwo X and Mewtwo Y. Unlike most Pokémon, however, Rayquaza does not need a Mega Stone to Mega Evolve. Rayquaza only needs to know its signature move, Dragon Ascent, which frees up its item slot entirely.

That means Mega Rayquaza can simultaneously hold a Life Orb or Choice Band on top of its already enormous stat total, pushing its offensive output to levels that are unthinkable. Rayquaza’s ability, Delta Stream, automatically sets up strong winds mid-battle that eliminate weaknesses of Flying-types, giving it a passive defensive layer.

Palkia Can Bend Reality At Its Whim, And No Amount Of Psychic Power Can Match That

Palkia is a member of the Creation Trio alongside Dialga and Giratina, and its existence is tied to the governance of space. According to Pokémon mythology, the fabric of space depends on Palkia’s well-being. In battle, Palkia carries a base stat total of 680.

The signature move, Spacial Rend, tears through space to deal heavy Dragon-type damage, and as a dual Water and Dragon type, Palkia only carries two weaknesses, while resisting several common attacking types.

On the battlefield, Palkia can resist common attack types, especially Steel, Fire, and Water. A creature that can distort, bend, and create entire dimensions does not experience battle the same way a mortal Pokémon does. Mewtwo can unleash a devastating psychic storm, but Palkia can counter it by warping the very space that the storm travels through.

Dialga Was Handed Dominion Over One Of The Fundamental Forces Of Reality

Dialga is the deity of time, created by Arceus to ensure time flows continuously throughout existence. Time moves because Dialga’s heart beats, which means it can travel through time freely and warp, slow down or freeze the timeline.

In battle, both standard Dialga and standard Mewtwo share a base stat total of 680, making them evenly matched. However, Dialga’s Steel and Dragon dual typing gives it a defensive edge, granting it a massive nine resistances and one immunity. This allows it to take neutral or resisted hits from almost every attacking type in the game.

Mewtwo’s Mega Evolutions push its stat total to 780, giving it an advantage in a straight fight. However, lore and mechanics tell two different stories here. A creature that controls time does not need to overpower Mewtwo, because it can just rewind the moment Mewtwo attacks, erase the battle from the timeline, or freeze time altogether.

Giratina Was Banished To Another Dimension For Being Way Too Dangerous To Exist In This One

Start with this fact and let it sink in that Arceus, the god of the Pokémon universe, created Giratina and then exiled it to the Distortion World because its power was considered too violent and destructive for the main universe to keep up with. Giratina now governs antimatter and rules over the Distortion World, a dimension where the laws of physics do not apply.

The dual Ghost/Dragon typing gives Giratina immunity from Mewtwo’s Normal-type coverage. Giratina’s Origin Forme holds base 120 in both Attack and Special Attack, making it a serious threat from both sides. With this, it can exploit Mewtwo’s Ghost-type weakness through moves like Shadow Ball, hitting super-effectively while shrugging off Psychic-type retaliation. Mewtwo’s 780-BST Mega Evolutions possess an undeniable speed and power advantage, but against a deity that commands antimatter, these numbers essentially lose their meaning.

As The Destruction Pokémon, Yveltal Carries Death Itself As A Weapon

Yveltal is a Dark and Flying type, and its Dark typing alone makes it immune to Psychic-type moves entirely, rendering Mewtwo’s strongest attacks useless. Dark Aura, its passive ability, boosts every Dark-type, making its attacks cause considerably more damage. This combination of natural immunity and boosted offensive power gives Yveltal an advantage that is quite difficult to work around.

Yveltal’s signature move, Oblivion Wing, inflicts heavy damage while simultaneously restoring its own health. Sucker Punch adds a priority Dark-type move to that package, letting it strike first regardless of the opponent’s speed, which directly counters one of Mewtwo’s most valuable traits. Mewtwo is fast, intelligent, and carries serious offensive power, but it holds zero resistance to Dark-type moves.
