5 MCU Magic Users Stronger Than Scarlet Witch, Ranked

It’s hard to believe any character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could be more powerful than Wanda Maximoff, aka the mighty Scarlet Witch. Since she debuted in Avengers: Age of Ultron, it seemed that this teen could do things no one else on Earth-616 could at the time. As her lore got more and more complex, fans confirmed it. Still, other magic users in the MCU could outmatch her, believe it or not.

Characters like Hela, Dormammu, and even Billy Maximoff can wield magic as masterfully as the Scarlet Witch does, or even better. This, combined with her years of experience in combat or their ruthlessness, could put Wanda at a huge disadvantage in combat. So far, Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed whether Scarlet Witch will be back, but if she does, fans would love to see her try to deal with a threat as big as she is.

Dormammu Can Take Wanda Down In The Dark Dimension

Dormammu may be more powerful than Thanos, but he doesn’t rank as high on this list because his powers are bound to his realm. However, in a fight inside the Dark Dimension, there’s no way Wanda could beat him. While she’s an expert at chaos magic, the cosmic being holds all power regarding Dark Dimension magic, and he can use it in many different ways, from wielding it as a weapon to manipulating reality with it.

The Scarlet Witch would stand her ground against Dormammu in the Dark Dimension. Eventually, she would realize there’s no way to beat him when it comes to sorcery. Unless she is smart enough to trick him as Doctor Strange did, Wanda would perish at this villain’s mercy.

Hela Has Years of Experience with Magic

Hela, portrayed by Cate Blanchett, debuted in Thor: Ragnarok and became one of the most feared villains in the MCU soon. She easily overpowered Thor and destroyed Mjolnir, leaving her brother powerless. This was just the last of a trail of bodies she left behind after she was released from prison.

Wanda may be the Scarlet Witch, but Hela is the Goddess of Death. Odin’s daughter is playing in a different league from Wanda. She rules over some of the laws that the Scarlet Witch tries to bend with her magic, and knows her sorcery way better than Wanda. Add in her years of experience with magic, and this means she can easily subdue Wanda on the battlefield.

Billy Maximoff Will Become An Omnipotent Being

After Agatha All Along, fans can’t believe that Billy Kaplan could be as powerful as his mother: he’s just a rookie when it comes to sorcery. However, if the MCU plans to follow the comics’ canon, it’s only a matter of time for Wiccan to outdo the Scarlet Witch, especially if he accesses his powers as the Demiurge.

As the Demiurge, Billy is set to become an entity beyond reality or even the multiverse. He’s supposed to be an omnipotent being who could do more than perform magic at the highest levels, but he could also rewrite the laws of magic to his will. Once he accesses this power, not even Wanda’s superior experience in combat will help her against him.

Loki Has Power Over The Multiverse

Since his debut in the MCU, fans knew Loki was incredibly powerful and incredibly well-versed in all kinds of magic. But following the finale of Loki, his power set got even more dangerous. As he became the God of Stories, Loki got access to cosmic levels of power that are entwined with the multiverse itself and now combine with his magic. Not only this, but he became the very reason this infinite number of timelines can exist.

The last time fans saw the Scarlet Witch, she was just learning about the multiverse and its advantages. What’s more, she needed América Chávez to actually travel through it. No amount of chaos magic would be enough to deal with someone who is the multiverse itself now, like Loki.

Death Is A Cosmic Entity

Agatha Harkness may have been incapable of subduing the Scarlet Witch, but her lover, Lady Death, aka Rio Vidal, wouldn’t have a problem. The original green witch is the embodiment of the end of all things. She’s an invincible universal constant instead of a person, while Wanda, although a powerful sorceress, is human.

Death understands magic in a way no other witch does. She has said herself that she is the original witch, so not even Wanda’s bond with chaos magic could be enough to help her. Lady Death likely knows all about it — and she may have even invented it. If this wasn’t enough, there’s the fact that Rio is thousands of years old while Wanda is not even in her forties. Death’s fight experience in life would give her an immediate advantage, combined with her absolute indifference towards morality. Rio will kill if she has to; that’s just who she is.
