5 Masterpiece Action Anime Better Than JJK

Most anime fans can relate to riding on a wave of adrenaline while watching a spectacular action sequence and being hit hard by the dopamine right after it ends. Among other genres, action has always been at the top of the food chain, which also means the fight for the throne is ferocious, but Jujutsu Kaisen has already been recognized as one of the best in the field.

Jujutsu Kaisen is largely celebrated for its action sequences that are full of aura farming moments, anxiety-inducing conclusions, and breathtaking animation that doesn’t hesitate to experiment with its approach. However, there are anime that have a much better take on the action genre than JJK, to the extent that they are considered masterpieces.

Solo Leveling Boldly Flaunts Its Mastery In Action

Jujutsu Kaisen is an excellent dark shonen anime, and there’s no doubt about its caliber as an outstanding action anime, either. However, when it comes to action, it’s nowhere near Solo Leveling’s mastery of the genre. Adapted from a webtoon, the South Korean anime (Aeni), is known for its blood-pumping action sequences. Solo Leveling goes all out with action, and doesn’t let down even for a second, which has earned the respect of not only the JJK fans themselves, but also of the action enthusiasts out there.

Thus far, Solo Leveling only has 25 episodes across 2 seasons, in which it has proved its mettle as an action anime worthy of being called a masterpiece. Fans love Solo Leveling despite its clichéd storyline because instead of pretending to be unique, the action anime focuses on its strength.

My Hero Academia Presents a More Detailed Power System Than JJK

My Hero Academia is a battle shonen anime, similar to Jujutsu Kaisen. What makes My Hero Academia a better action anime than JJK is its diverse power system, which is reliant on Quirks. There are mainly three types of quirks, which further branch out to varieties depending on the previous generation of quirk holders. Not only does this provide countless possibilities for how to stage a battle, but it also allows the quirks to evolve even further.

Unlike JJK, where even though cursed techniques can be different, all of them are built on the foundation of cursed energy, which, once depleted, can render a sorcerer useless. My Hero Academia is considered a masterpiece action anime because of how well-placed these quirks are throughout the storyline, helping it deliver visually compelling fights with nail-biting finishes. The anime of My Hero Academia has adapted the entire manga into 171 episodes over 8 seasons and a special.

Shangri-la Frontier’s Imaginative World Building Delivers Refreshing Action Scenes

Both Shangri-La Frontier and Jujutsu Kaisen are renowned action anime, although the former deserves more recognition outside its niche audience. Both battle shonen anime present brilliant animation to further heighten the viewing experience, especially during the action scenes, but only Shangri-La Frontier‘s battles stay entertaining even after they have ended.

One needs to keep in mind that no matter how well animated or choreographed an action scene is, if the context isn’t strong enough, it won’t hit as hard. Shangri-La Frontier beats Jujutsu Kaisen as an action anime through its power of imagination. After a while, the context and the motive of the fights in JJK became repetitive to the point where animation quality was the main priority. Whereas in Shangri-La Frontier, not only does the story provide context, it keeps changing the motive along with the entire setting, delivering fights that are new as well as refreshing to watch.

Emotional Quotient Adds to Naruto’s Impeccable Action Scenes

Naruto’s contribution to the action genre is immeasurable. It has created a name for itself through its story, characters, and action sequences that will continue to inspire both creators and consumers alike. To date, no one has been able to match, let alone top, Naruto’s genius as an action anime, and Jujutsu Kaisen is no exception. While the dark shonen anime has commendable action sequences, it can barely match Naruto’s grandeur. Be it the action choreography, animation, or the emotional weight of the scenes, Naruto outweighs JJK with ease.

Naruto’s way of building up to an action sequence is gripping in nature, not to mention the emotional weight they carry, which helps the viewer resonate with the characters on a deeper level. Unfortunately, JJK completely under-delivers in this aspect. If any action anime deserves to be called a masterpiece, without an ounce of doubt, it’s Naruto.

Scissor Seven is bizarre, whimsical and erratic. Not many anime have such a strong sense of identity as Scissor Seven, which plays a huge role in it being hailed as a masterpiece action anime. Scissor Seven is a Chinese anime (Donghua), which delivers something never seen before in the action genre. Even the likes of JJK pale in comparison. Be it a slipper, a pair of scissors, a chicken or even a booger, anything can be a weapon in the world of Scissor Seven.

What truly makes Scissor Seven a better action anime than Jujutsu Kaisen is not only its action sequences brimming with personality but also the mesmerizing hand-drawn animation saturated with soothing pastel colors that doesn’t replicate any existing style. With over 54 episodes across 5 seasons, Scissor Seven presents something original, a term which is often overused but rarely realized.
