Anime with overpowered protagonists have become a highly sought-after commodity over the years, and it is very easy to see why. Creators are constantly inventing new ways to make the trope work. As a result, extensive focus is usually placed on aspects such as engaging worldbuilding, interesting side characters, and relevant overarching themes.
The protagonists themselves often use their powers sparingly, waiting for perfectly timed moments when the tension is at its highest. Despite the heroes’ usual guaranteed victory, these factors and more make for quality viewing that fans cannot stop craving. While anime has undoubtedly become oversaturated with these stories, there are still many recent entries well worth watching.

The Misfit of Demon King Academy
The Misfit of Demon King Academy is a non-isekai reincarnation story set in a world where the protagonist, Anos Voldigoad, existed two thousand years ago as the all-powerful Demon King. He soon starts living up to his true name, however, performing mind-boggling feats like spinning a huge castle on his index finger and inflicting grave injuries through his heartbeat alone.
