On Wednesday, March 31 at 11:00 am EDT I will be one of several speakers participating in a Georgia Climate Project webinar on how the changing climate is affecting Georgia’s agriculture. I will talk about changes we are seeing in climate in Georgia and then several farmers will discuss what these changes mean for how they farm. More information is below.

Here is an interesting video from UGA Extension which describes how pecan farmers have dealt with recent damage due to hurricanes like Michael, Idalia, and Helene. The video also explains how farmers had to clean up after the storms and the best approaches to replanting and managing trees that are more resilient to high winds.

If you did not attend the Southeast Climate Monthly Webinar this week Tuesday, you might be interested in watching the video. I forgot to send out a reminder because I am traveling but fortunately, the video is now available on YouTube here. This month covered not only the regular climate summary, water summary, and agricultural impacts, but also had David Zierden, the Florida State Climatologist, who discussed the Florida drought, and Michael Gavazzi, who described the USDA Hurricane Preparedness guides for commodities around the Southeast. The next webinar is on June 24, when the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Outlook will be presented.
