Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Officially Teases New Open-World Game

With The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 4 in the pipelines, you would think that CD Projekt RED had enough on their plate. The Polish development team would be forgiven if they felt like taking an extended break after all these sequels and additional content are completed. Not the case though, as CD Projekt RED have yet another project they’re working on that most don’t even know about yet.

A brand-new IP that is not based on any books. Original content boasting an emotional narrative-driven experience set in an open-world we’ve not yet explored. A game that will resonate with players and stick with you long after the credits roll. Sounds like a tantalizing project for sure and, thanks to a couple of job listings on the CD Projekt RED website for engineers, we now know that their once teased game known as Hadar is in fact a reality.

Not much is known about the game, which is currently codenamed Hadar. It was first revealed in an earnings report way back in 2022, but details are scant. CEO Michał Nowakowski has been fairly tight-lipped about the project, only revealing that the game will have a focus on delivering an emotional narrative in an open-world not yet seen as this will be a brand-new IP. The project is still very much in the pre-production stage, so it makes sense that details are scarce.

With less than 30 people currently working on the game, we are probably a long way off seeing a release date. Nowakowski confirmed that they were currently testing several different prototypes in Unreal Engine and although the foundations for the IP have been locked down, the small size of the team working on it would suggest that CD Projekt RED’s focus is firmly on its already established IPs, namely The Witcher franchise and Cyberpunk 2077 which is still getting new content almost 6 years after launch.

With no source material to go off for Hadar, details of the story, setting and characters will remain secret until CD Projekt RED decides to pull back the curtains a little. With their already stacked roster of games coming out, Hadar will most likely not see the light of day for several years. Still, having The Witcher 4, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 and new DLC for The Witcher 3 still to come, the wait for Hadar will at least keep us entertained.

Unreal Fest is set to reveal new details for The Witcher 4 in June and the likelihood that we’ll hear more about Hadar at the event is pretty slim. Still, the wait from now until we learn anything more official about Hadar gives us plenty of time to speculate. Perhaps Hadar will pluck the very best elements from both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 and give us the ultimate fantasy RPG experience. Or maybe it’ll take a new turn entirely… only time will tell.
